Valentin Marcone fled Tuesday in the Cévennes forest after killing his boss and one of his colleagues in the sawmill where he worked, in the village of Plantiers (Gard).
Tracked by more than 350 gendarmes aided by drones, helicopters and dogs, he surrendered without resistance on Friday evening.
After his surrender, at the end of "83 hours" on the run, Valentin Marcone immediately "confessed his double crime" and he repeated his confession thereafter.

"The elements which allow us to retain the premeditation are multiple", indicated Eric Maurel, during a press conference Sunday morning.
"He was provided with a stocked weapon […] on his way to work and said he had, the morning of the tragedy, an altercation with his employer and a colleague over the payment of overtime," said the prosecutor. .
Before firing, “he went over a carpet carrying logs, opened his suit and a second garment to take his weapon, which took some time, he added, adding that Valentin Marcone had fired "at least three times, even four on the two victims".

On his personality, the prosecutor specified that "nothing allows to say that he is paranoid" even if "he felt fear vis-à-vis certain people of the village with whom he had been in conflict" this which had led him "to wear a bulletproof vest at work for nearly three years and a handgun for several months", explained the magistrate.
