The Strasbourg police station (Bas-Rhin) is in mourning for the second time in less than a year.
A police officer, assigned to the specialized field brigade (BST), killed himself this Sunday with his service weapon, at his home, revealed a union source, confirming information from the Actu 17 site.
This policeman was about forty years old, according to Actu 17. The newspaper Les Latest Nouvelles d'Alsace (DNA) reveals that he was married to a policewoman and was the father of two children.
"There was no sign of suicide," his colleagues told the local newspaper.
An investigation has been opened, continues the DNA.
Already 12 suicides since the start of the year
An online kitty was opened, in particular for the purchase of a "plaque in tribute" to the police officer.
Published on the Leetchi site, it collected this Sunday evening already nearly 2,000 euros.
Last July, the Strasbourg police station had already been bereaved by the suicide of a 26-year-old peacekeeper.
According to a count from the Actu 17 site, this suicide would be the twelfth in the ranks of the national police since the beginning of the year.
Last year, 28 police officers took their own lives.
