Veteran actor Gavin McLeod, who became famous mainly for his role as the charming and nice captain, Captain Meryl Stubbing in "Love Ship," passed away at the age of 90. McLeod's family members said he died early in the morning but did not say the cause of death. In recent months, his health has deteriorated.



McLeod was born in New York and completed his acting studies in 1952. He then played roles in a number of films and series, the most famous of which is of course his role in "The Love Ship" which he played for about a decade and 250 episodes. He also played Ernest in the sitcom "Mary Tyler Moore's Show." In 1998 an attempt was made to bring back the "Love Ship" series with a new crew. McLeod returned to the show along with some members of the original cast but after two seasons of the series being canceled



in the last 20 years McLeod has held several guest roles in several series, including "Oz," "The Seventies Show" and "King of the Neighborhood."
