2021-06-01T17:41:00.411Z

Residents, moved, came to drop flowers and words of support for the municipal police officer, assaulted this Friday morning at her place of work.

The emotion remained intense this Saturday in La Chapelle-sur-Erdre (Loire-Atlantique) the day after the knife attack of a municipal policewoman known to all. Katell L., 47, seriously injured from several blows to the thigh by a forty-something reputed to be "schizophrenic and radicalized", has worked in this town north of Nantes for twenty years. Many residents came to drop cards and flowers for her in front of the premises where her assailant hit her violently this Friday morning, before stealing her service weapon. The man was shot dead after a three-hour hunt, during which he kidnapped another woman and shot gendarmes. “Respect and support”, “for the policewoman”, say the little words affixed to the bouquets.

"She is fine, we have heard from her colleague, we can not wait to see her again", rejoices to AFP the hairdresser of a salon, located just behind the municipal police.

“She is very, very nice, she is gentle.

Who are we going to be protected by if we attack people like that?

Worries an old lady accustomed to meeting her.

According to Fabrice Roussel, the mayor of La Chapelle-sur-Erdre, who welcomes his "strong commitment" and "his great professionalism", Katell L., mother of an adult boy, was recruited as a young job at the end of the 1990s on social mediation missions, before taking the competitive examination of the municipal police.

"She's a great girl, she was lucky," says Laurence, who describes her as athletic, "dynamic and funny".

Investigation opened for "attempted murders" and "forcible confinement"

The investigation opened by the Nantes prosecution for "attempted murders" and "kidnapping" remains for the time being entrusted to the Nantes Research Section - the criminal qualification "terrorist" has not been retained at this stage. About fifty hearings, including that of the young woman kidnapped for nearly three hours, have already been carried out, the prosecutor said on Saturday. Others are in progress "in the professional and family environment of the aggressor in order to identify his personality".

The investigations will focus on understanding the reasons why Ndiaga Dieye, born in 1981, released at the end of March from the Nantes remand center, embarked on this ultra-violent journey.

Incarcerated since 2013, diagnosed with schizophrenia in detention, this delinquent with a heavy criminal record had been entered by the prison administration in the file of alerts for the prevention of terrorist radicalization in 2016, due to rigorous religious behavior.

Seized at his home, his computer media are being used.

Ndiaga Dieye had presented himself this Friday in the premises of the municipal police on the pretext of a "vehicle problem", before pouncing on the policewoman.
