Valérie Bacot case: a petition demanding her release collects more than 400,000 signatures

Valérie Bacot is accused of the murder of her husband in 2016, after 25 years of sexual, physical and emotional abuse.


After having lived an ordeal, Valérie Bacot now faces life imprisonment.

Raped, beaten and prostituted for 25 years by her ex-father-in-law who became her husband, this mother of four children ended up killing him on March 13, 2016. After a year of pre-trial detention, she was released under judicial supervision and is now waiting his trial which will be held from June 21 to 25 before the Assize Court of Chalon-sur-Saône.

A few weeks before a long-awaited trial, a petition launched by its support committee calls for the release of this woman whom "no one has ever protected".

"Even though she committed murder by killing her torturer, and taking into account the twenty-five years of suffering she suffered and endured in general indifference, it is her freedom that we ask for", writes the committee of support.

Over 400,000 signatures

To date, the petition hosted on Change.org already has more than 419,000 signatures. At the same time, hundreds of people expressed their support for the mother or demanded her acquittal on social networks. Valérie Bacot “is very moved to discover this flow of people who support her, who are interested in her. This is something completely new since she had never received the slightest proof of love before but had always lived isolated, staggering in life, ”her lawyer, Me Bonaggiunta, told Le Figaro.

Valérie's ordeal begins when she is only 12 years old.

The teenager is raped by Daniel Paulette, her stepfather.

Facts for which the latter will be condemned.

But on his release from prison, he returned to the home of Valérie Bacot's mother and the rapes resumed.

The young girl becomes pregnant with him at the age of 17.

Her mother rejecting her, Valérie finds herself alone and forced to follow Daniel Paulette.

She falls under his control and will have three more children by him.

For fear that her executioner would attack her daughter, Valérie Bacot seized a firearm with which Daniel Paulette regularly threatened her before shooting him, on the night of March 13, 2016. Today on parole after one year in prison, Valérie Bacot still lives and works in Saône-et-Loire.
