On the eve of the opening this Thursday of the trial of the alleged assassin of Julie Douib before the Assize Court of Haute-Corse, the father of this

On March 3, 2019, Julie Douib died at the age of 34, shot three times by her ex-companion in L'Île-Rousse (Haute-Corse).

In a few days, this mother of two children has become the symbol of the fight against feminicides and violence against women, and this tragedy is one of the elements at the origin of the Grenelle of conjugal violence.

The trial of his alleged murderer opens this Thursday before the Assize Court of Haute-Corse in Bastia.

Julie's father, Lucien Douib, has been waiting for this trial for two years to obtain justice and is now speaking out against feminicides and violence against women.

In what state of mind are you approaching this trial?

LUCIEN DOUIB.

We will attend with my wife, my son and my sister-in-law in Corsica, where we arrived this Wednesday.

We are all a little stressed and anxious at the idea of facing these five days of hearing until June 16, but we will stand up, united, as a family.

I have armored myself and am ready to hear everything, without flinching, from the mouth of the man who killed my daughter.

Even though I know it will be hard, I want to be there to show him that I exist and that I will be strong enough not to give him the pleasure of reaching me with his statements.

I hope we will be relieved when the verdict is announced.

What are you waiting for, beyond the conviction of Julie's alleged killer?

I am waiting for justice to be done, and as it should! This man premeditatedly killed my daughter with three bullets, without giving her a chance. The maximum penalty for murder is life imprisonment. I hope that is what he will receive with a maximum of years of safety. If he takes less than that, I would have a hard time understanding him after all he has done to my daughter, who has suffered domestic violence for years. Our family took life no matter what and we are branded for life! I trust justice, despite the failings of the institutions when Julie alerted the gendarmes and filed a complaint six times for death threats. The whole institution is not failing as a whole. Either way, I have no other choice. On the other hand, this trial will not be used to help me mourn Julie, because I never will. I do not expect any apology from this man, nor any explanation for his gesture, I do not care!

Do you think that this trial can advance the fight against feminicides?

It is first and foremost the trial of the alleged murderer of my daughter, but it is obvious that the many recent feminicides will remind everyone that this fight is not moving forward. In recent weeks, it was a real massacre, it was awful! In several cases, these men killed, while they had been placed under electronic bracelets, which adds to the anger. If this trial can allow heavier sentences to be inflicted on these men who kill their partners or ex-partners with hammers, by burning them or defenestrating them, it is a good thing. But if I support this cause, I have taken the precaution not to join any association and not to show myself as little as possible with ministers or politicians for two years so that no one can blame me on the day. J.I don't want us to give the stick to get beaten, that would be too bad. Moreover, I made the decision not to speak publicly during the trial and I will let our two lawyers communicate with the press.

What has become of your two grandsons since the death of their mother?

There is no question that they go to Corsica.

During the trial, they will stay with us in Vaires-sur-Marne (Seine-et-Marne) and will be looked after by a relative, in order to preserve them as much as possible.

With my wife, we obtained the delegation of parental authority for our grandsons who are now 10 and 12 years old and who live with us.

This delegation has been extended until July 31, 2021, when we will go before the children's judge of the judicial court of Meaux, from whom we will ask for the total dismissal of the parental authority of the man who killed their mother.
