A man was arrested on Saturday after the discovery the day before of the body of his companion, killed by a stab, at his home in Armillac, a town of 200 inhabitants in Lot-et-Garonne.
He was taken into custody and will be presented to the Agen prosecutor's office on Monday, we learned from a judicial source on Sunday.
Aged 58, the individual was arrested by the gendarmes at his home, in the Basque Country, in Saint-Pée-sur-Nivelle.
He admitted during his police custody, "to be the author of the fatal act", the same source said.
The death of the victim, aged 55, would go back a few days before the discovery of the body.
The drama would have occurred during an argument.
The accused will be "presented Monday morning to the prosecution for an opening of information on the count of voluntary homicide by spouse", according to the same judicial source.
The investigation is entrusted to the gendarmes of the research section of Bordeaux and Agen.
This year, according to the feminist collective NousToutes, 54 women died killed by their spouse or ex-spouse.
