A man was fatally stabbed on Saturday in Mayotte, while driving in the center of the island, on an axis regularly subject to inter-village violence.
The facts took place between 4 a.m. and 6 a.m. on Saturday, according to the public prosecutor Yann le Bris.
The victim succumbed to his injuries after trying to escape from his attackers.
He is a 26-year-old man from the Comoros, an archipelago neighboring this French department in the Indian Ocean.

"Shortly after this first act, a high school student and then a school transport agent were attacked, injured and taken care of by the emergency services", indicates the prefecture of Mayotte on Saturday in a press release.
“I urge caution on the details of the facts since we did not hear a direct witness and we did not question the perpetrators either.
It is not excluded that the other attacks are linked, but for this it is necessary that the gendarmerie services continue their investigations, ”adds the prosecutor.
An important safety device
A large gendarmerie device was deployed to conduct the investigation and secure the two villages of Combani and Miréréni, a sector regularly plagued by inter-village violence, so as to avoid further violence or reprisals.
Sunday afternoon, no new episode had been reported, according to the gendarmerie.
Following the assault on their colleague bus controller, the school carriers have filed a right of withdrawal.
They will not pick up students from Monday June 14 until the next school year 2021-2022, August 23.
Violence between rival gangs is frequent in Mayotte, a department facing poverty and insecurity.
In April, two high school students died on leaving their school, a week apart, sparking a wave of protests.
