The coveted “Children's Game of the Year 2021” prize has been awarded: This year it goes to “Dragomino”, an offshoot of “Kingdomino”.
"Dragomino" by the game designers Bruno Cathala and Marie and Wilfried Fort is suitable for children from the age of five.
The game is about placing domino-like tiles in such a way that the same landscapes are next to each other.
If this succeeds, there is a dragon egg as a reward.

The jury praised the fact that »Dragomino« was reduced to the essentials »without being unfaithful to the original«.
Testing the games was a challenge for the jury in the corona year. The members of the test-playing families received feedback via video telephony. “That was a lot more work for everyone involved than in previous years, so I'm happy and a little proud of our performance and what came out of it,” explains Christoph Schlewinski, coordinator of the children's play jury, namely “a great and varied one List of ten games that are perfect for all children. "
The "Children's Game of the Year" has been awarded by the "Game of the Year eV" association since 2001.
A separate children's game jury consisting of game critics and educators reviews all new games released in the past twelve months, nominates three games for the prize and recommends ten other titles.
On the weekend before the award ceremony, the members of the jury vote secretly on the winner's title.
The awards for “Game of the Year 2021” and “Kennerspiel des Jahres 2021” will take place on July 19 in Berlin.

»Fabelwelten«, nominated for children's game of the year 2021
"Fabelwelten" belongs to the genre of narrative games. Stories are told, for example about the determined captain, the clever girl or the brave knight and his lovely maiden. In total there are ten such fairy tales, which are not as clichéd as it appears at first glance. One person reads from an interactive book and everyone in the game secretly decides to fill roles in the story with animals. Then it is agreed which selected animal fits best. The principle is reminiscent of »Dixit«, the »Game of the Year 2010«, which incidentally also comes from France.
