Games fair E3: These are the most exciting new games

2021-06-16T17:22:41.922Z

"Starfield" lures you into space, in "Forza Horizon 5" you can drive through an entire country, and "Replaced" shines with a new graphic style: We are showing a dozen new games from the online E3.

The Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) is the most important video game fair in the world.

But because of the corona crisis, it had to be canceled last year and cannot be presented as a trade fair in the usual sense this year either.

Now the organizers are trying to revive the event on the net as a series of online events by the various game manufacturers, which in short have been put together to form an Internet E3.

But even before the fair started with its program on June 12th, players could watch a few new games on June 10th and experience one "world premiere" after the other: As part of an almost two-hour online presentation called Summer Game Fest 2021 , trailer after trailer was fired - most of which, however, made little impression.

Together with the shows at E3 and some smaller events such as the Tribeca Games Spotlight or Wholesome Direct, a week full of announcements of new games is now behind us, of which we want to present some of the most interesting.

"Elden Ring"

For two years fans of the studio From Software had to wait until there was new information about »Elden Ring«. Together with the author of the "Game of Thrones" books, George RR Martin, the "Dark Souls" makers are working on a great fantasy game, which should again impress with its challenging game mechanics. A big novelty can be seen in a trailer: players can swing on horses and other four-legged friends to quickly traverse the game world, which is said to have open-world bonds. Battles can also be fought while riding.

Particularly interesting for

: Gamers who like From Software's games and who are willing to spend many, sometimes frustrating, hours in a dark fantasy world.

Playstation 4 and 5, Xbox One and Series, PC.

Release: January 21, 2022

"Battlefield 2042"

The biggest innovation in the new "Battlefield" part is already causing heated discussions: There will be no story mode, the game is designed entirely for multiplayer battles.

The publisher Electronic Arts fired out a few numbers for these: 128 players should be able to cavort on the gigantic maps, the largest of which should be a whole 5.9 square kilometers.

In the first trailer, fans of the series were able to look forward to the return of a popular feature: players can catapult themselves out of a flying jet and shoot enemy aircraft with a bazooka.

Typical video game food in the scenario: near future, shortly before war, natural disasters and terror.

Particularly interesting for

: fans of multiplayer games who like it bombastic and are into fast-paced action.

Playstation 4 and 5, Xbox One and Series, PC.

Release: October 22, 2021

"Guardians of the Galaxy"

After »Avengers«, Eidos Montreal, the studio behind the »Tomb Raider« reboot, is devoting itself to yet another Marvel franchise: »Guardians of the Galaxy«.

However, it is a pure single player game, a third person action adventure in which the players take on the role of »Starlord«.

The video already showed some gameplay that is a bit reminiscent of "Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order".

It looks like the players can influence the events and thus also the story through various response and action options.

The fights look like a hybrid of "Final Fantasy 7 Remake" and "Devil May Cry".

Thus, "Guardians of the Galaxy" looks like a mixture of currently popular game mechanics, which were polished to a high gloss in this blockbuster title.

Especially interesting for

: fans of the Marvel characters and friends of action adventures.

Playstation 4 and 5, Xbox One and Series, PC.

Release: October 26, 2021

"Starfield"

Fans had to wait a long time for news about "Starfield".

The trailer now shown still doesn't reveal much.

Todd Howard, Game Director at Bethesda, stated that the game has been in the making for 25 years, but can only now be realized with the hardware of the new generation of consoles.

The trailer features an astronaut getting a spaceship ready for launch while she says we're all here to discover what's out there.

That is mighty vague, but it can be assumed that »Starfield« will be an RPG with a large, open game world.

Particularly interesting for

: gamers who like games like »Skyrim« or »Fallout« and who are thirsty for a new, gigantic role-playing game.

Xbox Series and PC.

"A Plague Tale: Requiem"

In 2019, “A Plague Tale: Innocence” was one of the surprise hits of the year.

The action adventure is set in France in the Middle Ages and, as the name suggests, plays with the fear of the plague and the creatures that transmit it: rats.

»Requiem« should be the direct successor and thus continue the story of Amica and her little brother Hugo.

As before, the aim will be to steer the two protagonists through the threatening world in such a way that they can survive all dangers unscathed and at the same time help each other.

Particularly interesting for

: Gamers who like scary stories and games with a historical setting.

Xbox Series, PC and probably Playstation 5. Release: 2022

"Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora"

At its own event, Ubisoft showed the first trailer for a new "Avatar" game.

The little information that is available is limited to: Open World, First Person and Action-Adventure.

Of course, these are quite interchangeable keywords.

The development studio Massive Entertainment is known for games such as "Far Cry 3" and the "The Division" series, so they have experience in developing large and detailed game worlds.

According to the press release, players should explore a part of Pandora that cannot be seen in the films - a second "Avatar" film is expected in 2022.

Particularly interesting for

: gamers who like Ubisoft's open world games and who can also relate to the “Avatar” brand.

Playstation 5, Xbox Series and PC.

Release: Unknown

"Trek to Yomi"

The story sounds absurd: In feudal Japan, the players take on the role of Hiroki, who swore to his master before his death that he would protect his hometown and its inhabitants.

This vow leads to all kinds of adventures and trials that must be passed.

"Trek to Yomi" is a sword fighting side scroller that stands out above all for its "film noir" look.

Behind the game is the Polish studio Flying Wild Hog, which is known for the shooter series "Shadow Warriors".

Especially interesting for:

Fans of samurai stories who like to swing the sword and are not averse to 2D gameplay.

Playstation 4 and 5, Xbox One and Series, PC.

Release: 2022

"Replaced"

It is the special graphic style that makes "Replaced" stand out from the crowd of video games: The pixel look, which skilfully plays with depth of field and light effects and can create a very memorable atmosphere in the trailer.

The side scroller is set in a dystopian cyberpunk universe, in which the players explore run-down slums and have to endure fast-paced battles with firearms and striking tools.

Especially interesting for

: Players who like Metroidvania side scrollers and are looking for the dark atmosphere of cyberpunk worlds.

Xbox Series and PC.

"Redfall"

Arkane, the studio behind »Redfall«, is known for games like »Dishonored« and the »Deathloop«, which will be released in autumn.

Now they are working on a new shooter in which vampires have to be slaughtered.

In the open-world co-op shooter, which can also be played solo, players have several heroes at their disposal, from which they can choose to venture into the dark and prevail against the bloodsuckers.

Particularly interesting for

: fans of games like "Bleeding Edge" or "Overwatch", that is, multiplayer shooters with bizarre characters.

Whereby »Redfall« seems to offer a little more story.

Xbox Series and PC.

Release: summer 2022

"Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope"

About four years ago, Ubisoft published "Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle", a surprising crossover of the "Mario" and "Rabbid" franchises that found a lot of fans. In the sequel there should now be nine characters from which players can put together a team of three. The aim is to find and save so-called Sparks, each of which gives the characters different skills that they can use in tactical battles. As with the predecessor, these are turn-based skirmishes, in which the players give the characters commands and weigh up between defensive and offensive - always taking the respective terrain into account.

Particularly suitable for

: Fans of turn-based tactical games who are not averse to bizarre characters and sometimes crude humor.

Nintendo Switch

.

Release: 2022

"Forza Horizon 5"

"Forza Horizon 5" should offer more than 500 different cars and the largest open world to date. This time the backdrop is Mexico, which the players can freely drive through in the arcade racer. For example, it is possible to discover graffiti by Mexican artists on house walls between the races and thus experience something of the country's culture. There is also a career mode, in which new parts of the game world can be developed, as well as an editor with which players can create their own races and design mini-games. In addition, the game looks graphically fantastic on the new generation of consoles - it will be worthwhile to park the car on the side of the road to enjoy the view.

Particularly interesting for

: fans of fast-paced racers for whom fun is more important than simulation

Xbox Series and PC.

Release: November 9, 2021

"Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin"

That's a bit surprising: A »Final Fantasy« spin-off from Studio Team Ninja, which was most recently responsible for the »Nioh« series, which in turn was heavily inspired by »Dark Souls«. If you are confused by these connections, the trailer will probably leave you with a few question marks. It becomes clear that the action role-playing game "Stranger of Paradise" attaches great importance to its combat system, which is strongly reminiscent of "Devil May Cry" and "Dark Souls". The style and character design might seem strange to some »Final Fantasy« fans - owners of a Playstation 5 can play into the first demo and get an idea of this game for themselves.

Particularly interesting for

: Fans of the »Final Fantasy« series who are open to significantly more action-heavy gaming experiences.
