Netanyahu for the first time - in Balfour
The opening sketch of a wonderful country (Keshet 12) in the season finale episode looks like this: the imagined Benjamin and Sarah Netanyahu are fortified in their residence with their eldest son. They tied up the security guards and took them hostage, making an improvised Molotov cocktail from a bottle of champagne fortified with a cigar. They are rude and disconnected, and refuse to leave, and decide to blow up the place on its occupants until a power outage - that is: a cessation of financing for the house - saves the situation.
There is no need to feel sorry for leaders, and satire is allowed to be mean, and yet - there is no elegant humor in this venomous dripping portrait, which we have seen demonstrations in Balfour that have shown a more kind treatment of Netanyahu than him. This is what an exhausted, subtext-free comedy looks like, which itself cannot release. The subconscious here is stronger: the explosion - like the sketch - ends in failure to solve the saga. There will have to be another way to end the Bibi-Mariano era.
Much has been written about this imitation, which has taken on a life entirely of its own.
Mariano's Netanyahu, for his slickness and pathos inherent in him, has over the years also been shaped as a confused, self-frightened figure, who at times evokes almost compassion.
Now a great country is entering the era of the inftile twist - and the figures in the cabinet of a great country will be painted in other colors following it.
