The perpetrators of the murder of Mihai Spataru, a Romanian truck driver, who was stabbed at a motorway rest area in mid-May, have been arrested.
According to France Bleu, they are two men, of Iraqi Kurdish origin, aged 27.
They dispute the facts.
Mihai Spataru, 39, was found dead, stabbed on the Translaye motorway rest area, on the A28, in the direction of Abbeville-Rouen.
Coming from England, he was on his way to Spain where he was to deliver his goods.
On the night of May 15 to 16, the victim, accompanied by his wife, who was also a driver of heavy goods vehicles, was said to have left the vehicle a few moments after hearing a noise.
On his return, the driver was "seriously injured", and despite the arrival of help warned by his wife, "he quickly succumbed".
It could be fuel or cargo theft gone wrong.
An abandoned mask on the motorway rest area
If the investigators were able to trace the two individuals, it is because the DNA of one was found on an anti-Covid mask left on the motorway area, specifies France Bleu.
One was arrested in the Rouen region, the other in Grande-Synthe in the North.
They are being prosecuted for “intentional homicide” and “attempted robbery with violence resulting in death”.
The murder of the truck driver had aroused great emotion in the profession.
Many professionals had deplored the growing insecurity on the motorway areas, where they sleep.
"We want much safer spaces on French territory", asked one of Mihai Spataru's colleagues in a message posted on Facebook and shared thousands of times.
