A man was taken into custody Wednesday in Isère for murder, suspected of being the author of the beatings found on the lifeless body of a transgender woman who wanted to kill herself, the prosecution announced.
The body of this 49-year-old woman, born male before changing marital status, was found Tuesday at her home in Montalieu-Vercieu, north of Isère, Dietlind Baudouin, prosecutor of Bourgoin-Jailleu, confirming information from the regional daily Le Dauphiné Libéré.
His death was caused by blows to the face, quickly concluded the investigators, who arrested Wednesday morning a 50-year-old man, friend of the victim "without any love or conjugal bond", specifies the prosecutor.
His statements and a note left by the victim "make it possible to understand that (the victim) wanted to end his life and had requested the help of the person currently in custody", writes the magistrate.
"The gesture which led to the death being obviously premeditated", the 50-year-old man was placed in police custody for murder on Wednesday morning, while waiting to be presented to an examining magistrate in Grenoble.
An autopsy is due on Thursday.
