California: drought and record temperatures

It has not rained for weeks and the reservoirs are reporting low levels. Even in the otherwise water-rich Central Valley, farmers are fighting against the extreme drought.

The west of the USA is suffering from a massive heat wave with record temperatures of sometimes over 50 degrees Celsius.

The authorities issued a heat warning for almost 50 million citizens.

The temperatures in the affected region are around ten degrees Celsius above the seasonal average.

Due to the drought, the water level of lakes and rivers is low, and there is also a lack of water for agriculture.

Here droughts have cost the state billions of dollars in recent years and have resulted in the loss of thousands of seasonal jobs.
