An Italian trade unionist who took part in a picket line in front of a warehouse of the supermarket chain Lidl died on Friday.
He was hit by a truck trying to force the roadblock, his union said.
"Our coordinator was killed by a truck (...) during the ongoing strike in front of the Lidl de Biandrate" in northern Italy, wrote on Facebook the small SiCobas union which had organized a day of national strike in the logistics sector.
Adil Belakhdim, 37, father of two, was on a picket line with around 20 people in front of the warehouse when the truck forced its way, killing him and injuring two other trade unionists whose condition is not judged worrying.
The driver of the truck was arrested shortly after, not far from the tragedy.
He is currently being heard by the police.
“I am very touched by the death of Adil Belakhdim.
It is necessary to quickly shed light on what happened ”, declared the head of the Italian government, Mario Draghi.
