As we progress to the fifth generation, all the leading manufacturers are introducing more and more new devices with support for the new network at a low price tag.

Last week, Shiomi launched the Xiaomi Mi 11 Lite 5G in Israel, just about two months after bringing the regular model, which does not support 5G.

The name of the device indicates its support for 5th generation networks, and although it seems to be basically the exact same model, the new Mi 11 Lite 5G includes a few other minor improvements in terms of technical specifications - such as a SnapDragon 780G processor and 8GB of working memory.

So what do you get for less than 2,000 shekels?

We checked.

Design

The more modest brother of the Chinese technology giant's flagship device comes with a lightweight structure (159 grams) and a glass back, but it still feels a bit cheaper and less "premium" in the hand. This is a slightly large device, with a 6.55-inch screen that is a little difficult to operate with one hand, so while typing you will already need two hands.

At the same time, the screen quality of the Mi 11 Lite 5G, which comes with an AMOLED panel at a refresh rate of 90 Hz, managed to surprise very well - with accurate and clear colors and high sharpness.

In addition, I was able to continue using the device even on a clear day when the sun radiates directly on the screen, thanks to the illuminance of 500nits in normal mode and 800nits at maximum - except that you will not find in any smartphone in the same category.

Its glass back looks great - we got the green color, and unlike quite a few devices on the market, it actually does not "absorb" fingerprints excessively and does not slip from the hand during use.

Also at the bottom is the SIM drawer, and volume control buttons and on and off button (including fingerprint sensor) on the top right side.

Interface and performance

The Mi 11 Lite 5G comes with Android 11, which is already nice.

On the operating system is Shiomi's interface - MIUI 12.0.2 that is easy to operate, but still loaded with unnecessary applications from the manufacturer - without an application drawer that will be missing for some users.

Although this is a mid-range phone, its response speed is very good, it's probably thanks to Qualcomm's SnapDragon 780G chip, with a large 8GB of working memory.

In practice, I did not feel excessive blowing or slowing down even when I tried to load the device during use.

Releasing the lock using the fingerprint sensor works great, with lightning speed and success rates approaching 100, without you having to press the lock button at all - just place your finger and the device opens.

battery

Looking for a cheap smartphone with a powerful battery?

You will surely be pleased to know that Shiomi's smartphone comes with a battery with a capacity of 4,250 mAh, which is charged via a USB Type-C connector with a maximum power of 33 watts for fast charging.

The device charges very quickly, about 50 percent in 30 minutes, and when it comes to a battery with such a large capacity - this is a significant line for those who need to spend more from their phone during the day.

Camera

The Mi 11 Lite 5G aligns with all smartphones of the last three years and includes four camera lenses - three in the back and one in the front.

The main sensor on the back of the device comes with a resolution of 64 megapixels, along with a secondary sensor of 8 megapixel quality and another lens with a resolution of 5 megapixels for macro photography.

Daylight photography and close-up photography look great, the level of detail is high, the color range is wide and rich and displays accurate colors and the images look rich in details even on a computer screen.

What we liked less, in certain lighting conditions, the colors sometimes seemed a bit faded.

The device also comes with a front camera (selfie) with a resolution of 20 megapixels.

The quality is very good compared to smartphones in the same category, but does not compare to what you will get in the premium models.

Also, it is worth noting that the shooting mode comes automatically with a "beautification" filter that retouches the face in a slightly excessive way.

Bottom line

This is not a performance monster or something that will turn you into professional photographers, but Shiomi once again manages to draw the line between what you get and what you pay, and this time too it is a smartphone that gives good value for the price you pay.

Hamilton, Shiomi's official importer in Israel, offers the Mi 11 Lite 5G in its basic version, which includes 7 GB of working memory (RAM) and 128 GB of storage for NIS 1,799.
