After about 8 years in the global cellular market, OnePlus is no longer the same small manufacturer that focuses only on devices with an affordable price tag and advanced specifications, but one of the main players - head to head with the biggest technology giants.

In recent years, in a repeated attempt to bring back the lost audience to competitors offering cheaper devices, the company continues to expand its discounted device series - Nord, and last month unveiled the OnePlus Nord CE 5G, a new mid-range model offered for only NIS 1,599.

So can the new model pose a threat to other players in the local cellular market?

We received the OnePlus Nord CE 5G from the company's official importer in Israel, Sal Nao, and returned with some conclusions that you should really know.

Design

Unsurprisingly, the Nord CE 5G has not redesigned too much in design and it looks like another One Plus smartphone.

It is comfortable to hold in one hand, unlike a few devices in the category, and features a very high-quality, high-quality OLED screen with a 6.43-inch thin rim.

The back is made of shiny and nice-looking plastic that easily catches fingerprints (so it is very advisable to use the cover that comes in the package).

On top of that, it is also quite light (170 grams) - so it also does not make it difficult to walk while in the pocket.

At the bottom of the device you will find a USB C charging socket, when if you have not yet switched to wireless headphones (hey, we are in 2021) you will surely be happy to know that there is a 3.5 mm headphone socket. The volume buttons are on the left side and on the right .

Interface and performance

When it comes to hardware, the value for money is definitely surprising.

The OnePlus Nord CE 5G (yes, the name is long and annoying) is equipped with flattering hardware and comes with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 750G processor, alongside 12GB of working memory (RAM).

The results are not surprising - the technical specifications allow operations to be performed easily and without stuttering with regular use of the device.

The device can be unlocked using an optical fingerprint scanner located below the screen (which illuminates the finger).

Also, another advantage that is important to put in is the Android 11 operating system, which comes to the company’s users when it wears the OxygenOS 11 user interface, which incorporates cleaner and less cluttered menus compared to the competition.

It is important to emphasize: there is another version of the device with 8 GB of working memory, which sells for NIS 1,399.

Large battery - super fast charging

Like other mid-range devices in the mobile market, the Nord CE 5G also comes with fast charging support, and in the test I did I was able to charge the device from 0% to 50% in less than 20 minutes.

And it is important to remember: this is a battery with a capacity of 4,500 mAh.

On a normal day with it, after about 12 hours of use - which included WhatsApp, emails, networks and social media and YouTube - the battery stood at about 40%.

On the other hand, one of the compromises in such a cheap device is that you will not find wireless charging here.

3 cameras

The OnePlus Nord CE 5G's camera array includes three sensors, with the main camera having a resolution of 64 megapixels, the second sensor coming in 8-megapixel quality for wide-angle photography, and the third lens having a resolution of 2 megapixels and designed for depth photography.

In daylight these are not bad images, but still with some color limitations that feel a little pale and faded.

Also, indoors, even those with little natural lighting, get a mediocre to disappointing experience, with grainy photos.

On the other hand, the selfie camera, which comes with a single sensor with a resolution of 16 megapixels, managed to surprise with good images even in low natural lighting.

In addition, the bokeh effect to blur the background around the subject looks pretty good.

Bottom line

As always, OnePlus has done an excellent job of proving that you don't have to pay thousands of shekels to get a device that looks good, along with great performance.

The Nord CE 5G is the most affordable intermediate device on the market, and especially for those who insist on switching to 5G, although the photography system is a bit disappointing.
