Weather forecast: disturbed and unstable weather until Wednesday July 14

2021-07-12T18:58:26.767Z

Rains and thunderstorms are currently sweeping through much of the country. In places, the cumulative rainfall may correspond to the equivalent of 3 weeks to a month of rain.

France is currently suffering from widespread rain and storm damage, explains our partner La Chaîne Météo *.

This degradation is linked to an air mass conflict between the upwelling of very hot air coming from North Africa and Spain, and very fresh air arriving from the Atlantic.

The depression responsible for this degradation is positioned and blocked in France, bringing disturbed and unstable weather until Wednesday July 14, especially in eastern France.

This lasting episode of bad weather is unusual in the heart of the meteorological summer, points out La Chaîne Météo.

Thus, the rains and thunderstorms crossing a large part of the country are blocked in the eastern regions. The precipitation is sometimes intense, with sudden gusts of wind, a risk of hailstorms and very significant electrical activity. In places, the cumulative rainfall may correspond to the equivalent of 3 weeks to a month of rain. This episode of bad weather persists until Tuesday afternoon in the east for thunderstorms, and will last until Thursday in these same regions due to a return from the east bringing lasting rains of moderate intensity to strong from the Great East to the north of Rhône-Alpes.

Tonight, the stormy axis will continue from the Center-East to the Grand Est, reaching Alsace, Jura and Savoies.

In Normandy, thunderstorm rains of moderate intensity will continue.

During the night of Monday 12 to Tuesday 13 July, the situation will calm down in Normandy while heavy stormy rains will continue between Alsace, Jura and the Alps.

On Tuesday, the thunderstorm precipitation will ease a little in the east.

At the same time, sustained and sometimes stormy precipitation will affect Hauts-de-France, Champagne-Ardenne, Île-de-France then Center-Val de Loire and Limousin.

The characteristics of this degradation are as follows:

  • a new, significant and lasting rainfall-stormy degradation with marked electrical activity and high rainfall intensities.

  • locally cumulative rainfall of up to 20 to 50 mm within 1 to 3 hours.

  • over the entire episode, accumulations of 50 to 100 mm are possible, corresponding to 1 month of rain.

  • risks of mudslides and localized flooding.

  • a moderate risk of hailstorms.

  • under the strongest thunderstorms, wind gusts can reach 100 km / h.
