WhatsApp

has a

zero tolerance policy against third-party apps

-particularly those not designed by Facebook- that modify their original operation and put the user at

risk of losing their account.

This is what the messaging service itself makes known in a statement on its website, ensuring that, in a first phase, the accounts will be subjected to a

temporary suspension

and that, if users persist, their account "could be permanently suspended. ".

"If you received a message within the application notifying that your account is 'temporarily suspended' it means that you are probably using

an unauthorized version of WhatsApp

instead of the official WhatsApp application", they warn from the app in the Help Center section .

And they complete: "If after your account has been temporarily suspended you do not start using the official version of WhatsApp, your account could be

permanently suspended

."

WhatsApp penalizes users who use modified versions of the original application.

The apps banned by WhatsApp

In particular, the messenger points to two applications:

WhatsApp Plus and GB WhatsApp

, similar in their characteristics, since they provide a

greater degree of customization

to the WhatsApp experience as well as tools to make actions such as exporting chats easier.

In WhatsApp they ensure that these applications

violate their terms and conditions

of use, in

addition to maintaining that they are not safe.

Precisely, the sanction is

due to security issues

.

Failure to take action would imply that these apps could represent a potential danger for inexperienced users.

"These unofficial applications are developed by third parties and violate our Terms of Service. WhatsApp

does not endorse the use of these third-party applications

because it is not possible to validate their security practices," they maintain.

However, this decision is in stark contrast to Telegram.

Its applications are based on open source

, and the developer allows the creation of alternative applications that use its code and have alterations in its operation.

Only on Android can you find quite a few variants of the official client, in principle, supported by its Russian rival.

The security of third-party apps

Computer security specialists, such as those of the ESET company, do not recommend downloading this application outside of the official

Google Play and App Store

stores

, since as it is not a trusted site, it is very likely that it has some type of malware hidden. (computer virus).

You also have to

verify the permissions

requested by the application are not excessive so as not to share more information than is necessary.

And that's not all: a security solution (antivirus) is key to detecting hidden threats in seemingly harmless applications.
