Netflix plans to expand its services starting next year - and enter the gaming field, according to a report published today (Thursday) on the Bloomberg website.

To drive the dramatic move, it has recruited a senior streaming giant in the gaming world, Mike Verdo, who will serve as vice president of the company’s game development division.

Verdo, a former executive at gaming giant EA (Electronics Arts) and Studio Zynga (Zynga), until recently served as Facebook's vice president and ran Facebook's virtual reality company - Oculus.

According to the publication, Netflix will already offer the games in a separate library next year - but not in a separate application, with the idea being to create a paid subscription service like Apple Arcade, which will offer a package of lightweight streaming games.

Also, the company will not charge an additional fee for the service first.

The move to streaming games is undoubtedly one of Netflix's stages in the search for new areas, in part because of the growing competition with new players - including HBO Max, Apple TV Plus and Disney Plus.

It is also important to remember that the company is coming to the arena with a huge user base - more than 200 million, which could make this move a huge success.
