New Audi RS3 (Manufacturer)

As the stopwatch of the sports cars pumping gasoline ticks backwards, the manufacturers enter the last line of refining their capabilities and the result is the current arms race we see between the end versions of the various manufacturers.

In the current round it's a Mercedes A45S AMG, and now Audi with the new RS3 when BMW will also join the celebration with the M version of the Series 1.

Audi's submission offer in the current generation of the RS3 comes in a 5-door Sportback configuration or Sedan, the familiar 2.5-liter 5-cylinder engine of the previous model, and a new electronics and differential package.

The "power station" of the new RS3 is the aforementioned 2.5-liter engine in a 5-cylinder configuration.

And while the power has not changed, but comes at a lower RPM, the torque figure has improved and stands at 51 kg.

And so that everyone can hear the unique sound of the 5-cylinder exhaust engine of the new RS3 add a new body system with an intermediate mode between "closed" and "open" mode that can be controlled by driving modes, and opens earlier in "dynamic" and RS to amplify the sound.

The gearbox remained a dual-clutch with 7 gears, but the gears in it were changed in favor of a more sporty arrangement and the gears' transmission times were shortened.

The result is an improvement in the acceleration figure to 100 km / h, which is shortened from 4 to 3.8 seconds (0.1 seconds faster than the A45 AMG for those for whom it is important). The maximum speed is 250 km / h, in the first edition versions it will be 280 km / h Customers with the dynamic package and ceramic brakes will also be able to get it in the faster version of 290 km / h maximum.

But these are just marginal improvements, the main innovation in the RS3 is its new differential.

For the first time in Audi, the RS3 will come with the new torque splitter that will provide a "shield" as standard, replacing the manufacturer's multi-disc rear "Haldex" differential.

In its place there is an electronically controlled multi-disc system on each side of the rear axle, locking or opening of the disc system controls the transfer of power to the right or left rear wheel.

The result according to Audi is a significant reduction in the tendency to give steering, and the possibility of more efficient power transmission when exiting turns to allow for faster and earlier acceleration.

But another advantage of the system is the ability to add a controlled "drift" mode to the car.

Similar to that of the Mercedes A45S AMG.

Other changes that should contribute to better dynamics are new adaptive shock absorbers developed specifically for the RS3, with more advanced shock absorbers also being offered as an option, adapting the damping differently to each wheel individually depending on road conditions and driving condition.

The camber angle of the wheels is slightly more negative than above the standard A3 (i.e. the lower part of the wheel protrudes more than the upper), which should improve grip and stability in turns and for this purpose the car is equipped with bearings, bone bones, stabilizers and other reinforcements in the chassis.

Other changes are the lowering of the body by 25 mm compared to the standard A3 and 10 mm compared to the Audi S3.

In the cabin, the new RS3 accepts the new 12.3-inch digital dashboard as standard.

The screen will offer new displays such as a newly designed RPM meter that simulates the "runway" of an airplane, with the low RPM at the bottom and wide becoming narrower as the world at RPM increases. Q, quarter-mile and eighth-mile times.

Also, variations manual replaces Rev color green, yellow and red and blinks to signal the time replacing gear optimal. And for the first time in the RS3 also data display high on the windshield.

On touch screen multimedia system arrives size of 10.1 inches can Additional data such as engine heat, gear oil heat, tire pressure, piling, etc.

According to Champion Motors, Audi's importer to Israel, we are expected to see the new RS3 here in the last quarter of 2021, near the start of its marketing in Europe.
