Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin on Thursday announced measures to better control the possession of weapons, during a trip to Puy-de-Dôme in tribute to the three gendarmes killed by a madman last year just before Christmas .
"I will propose very soon to ban the acquisition and possession of transformed weapons of war which are in circulation today", declared the minister during a speech, delivered at the Ambert gendarmerie to which were attached the three soldiers killed on December 22 in Saint-Just by Frederik Limol who was heavily armed.
A "decree" will be taken "in the coming days," said the minister's entourage.
Gérald Darmanin also referred to an article presented Monday in the Council of Ministers which aims "to strengthen the bans on weapons".
The text has yet to be discussed in Parliament.
Infractions and judicial decisions taken into account
The Minister proposes "to update the list of offenses" leading to registration in the FINIADA file which identifies people who do not have the right to acquire or hold weapons.
He thus proposes the registration of those having committed offenses "relating to attacks on minors and the family", detailed the entourage of the Minister.
