The Berlin data protection authority has received a complaint against the digital platform TikTok.

Apparently, parts of the company's workforce are concerned about their personal information.

Employees in the home office were therefore encouraged to load company apps with extensive access rights onto their private cell phones.

The authority confirms the complaint upon request.

The company has been asked for an opinion, but has not yet received an answer.

"There are high technical and legal hurdles for the data protection-compliant use of private end devices for professional purposes," says Maja Smoltczyk, Berlin Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information.

At TikTok it is said that they »are very committed to the data protection of our employees«.

The "current procedure" does not "provide for apps to be downloaded onto employees' personal cell phones."

The Berlin data protectionists now want to check whether the process has an international dimension.

The European headquarters of the Chinese TikTok parent company is in Dublin.

Should this prove to be responsible in the process, the case will be referred to the Irish data protection authority.
