After months of preparation, the Ministry of Transport's initiative for transparency in the spare parts prices of cars is underway.
The staff work that began during the time of the previous Minister of Transport Miri Regev and a booklet for the "People's Price List" project was intended to publish a figure that was visible, but not really accessible to the consumer from the community - the real cost of your current or next car.
This cost is defined by the Ministry of Transportation as a "hidden component" in vehicle maintenance, because while the price of a new or used car is famously prominent, or relatively easy to locate and find - when it comes to spare parts, it is not an easy task, even for those skilled in the field.

The reason: Although car importers are obliged to publish a price list for spare parts, in the vast majority of cases these are huge, complicated to navigate tables, based at best on part numbers or general descriptions of spare parts. as a means to offset reductions in the price of the new vehicle, or as a bargaining chip in front of leasing companies evaluating maintenance costs of cars. even the possibility to order spare parts online, is still the lot of too few vehicle owners in Israel.
the new initiative of the ministry, may not bring the end to this phenomenon, but certainly allow consumers to snap to get the car even "price tag" of the maintenance cost expected to perform. It should be noted that the new rating concerns only new parts and does not include the spare parts used.

Transport Minister Michaeli: "A move that will, for the first time, give full transparency in this area as well" (Photo: Reuven Castro)
The move, which is currently defined as a pilot, will be launched on August 1 this year. Then a dedicated website will be launched where the most common car models in Israel will be ranked, divided into categories: mini, super mini, family, Jeeps, etc. according to a basket of 80 common spare parts.
Replacement prices will be measured against the other models in the category and based on this the site will provide a "rating" for those models whose replacement prices are more expensive than average. The pilot will run for a year, during which the ranking will be updated every month in accordance with changes if there are any in the replacement prices.
Beyond the transparency and lack of commercial interest in the ranking, at least on the part of the Ministry of Transport, they also ensure a clear and transparent presentation of the data in a way that will allow consumers to make an informed and understandable choice of overall costs.
Minister of Transportation Merav Michaeli: "This is a first-class consumer and social move, which will encourage competition in the industry for the benefit of citizens, and for the first time will provide full transparency in this area as well. The move is expected to save thousands of shekels "In addition, it will also affect importers in setting prices."
