On July 26, 2016, Adel Kermiche and Abdel Malik Petitjean entered the Saint-Etienne church.
They are going to slaughter the 85-year-old priest Jacques Hamel in front of the parishioners.
The two attackers will be killed by the police.

According to France 3 Normandie, after a silent march from the presbytery to the Saint-Etienne church, a mass will be celebrated at 9 am by Mgr Dominique Lebrun, archbishop of Rouen, then a republican ceremony will be held at 10:30 am on the church square, in front of the stele for peace and fraternity
A trial in early 2022
If the two assassins were killed in 2016, the investigation revealed the probable sponsor of the attack, Rachid Kassim.
Targeted by an arrest warrant, the latter is presumed dead, killed in the Iraqi-Syrian zone four years ago.

In addition to Rachid Kassim, three other people will be tried before the Special Assize Court of Paris from February 14 to March 11, 2022. Farid K., Yassine S. and Jean-Philippe Steven Jean-Louis, are referred to the assizes for " criminal terrorist association ”. They are suspected of having associated with the attackers by being informed of their terrorist intentions, but not necessarily of their precise project.
