A 70-year-old hiker died on Saturday afternoon after a fatal fall in the mountains in the town of Bonneval-sur-Arc (Savoie), rescuers said.
The facts took place around noon at an altitude of 2500m near the Evettes refuge.
The septuagenarian was evolving in a particularly steep area before "having difficulties" and falling "of a hundred meters", said the Peloton of high mountain gendarmerie (PGHM) of Modane.
It is the guard of the refuge who alerted the rescuers.
This drama comes three weeks after a double drama that took place in Isère, when two young hikers, a few hours and a few kilometers apart, had a fatal fall of a hundred meters in the massifs of Isère.
One of the victims, aged 22, was a student in an engineering school in Chambéry and originally from Corrèze.
The Savoyard mountain rescue services have stepped up interventions in recent days, in particular to help hikers in difficulty.
On Wednesday, our colleagues from Dauphiné Libéré indicated that they had to intervene four times.
