The historical rival of
,
Telegram,
revealed this Monday that it
increased the capacity of group video calls
on its platform, which now support
up to 1,000 participants simultaneously

Group video calls on Telegram are found within the voice chat options.
At the moment, the platform allows up to
30 people to stream video from their device
, although the number of people who can participate only as viewers has increased.
In this sense, the messaging application has raised the limit to a thousand viewers, a figure that, as they explain in their official blog, they
hope to continue increasing

This novelty is accompanied by other changes in the platform, such as higher resolution in video messages, which allows them to be expanded;
different playback speeds of normal videos (0.5x, 1.5x and 2x, and 0.2x on Android);
Share the videos from a timestamp
and screen with sound in any video call.
Likewise, Telegram reported that the messages of the chats can be
deleted automatically
after the passage of a day, a week and now also a month.
On iOS, for example, it introduced the ability to forward a message to multiple recipients.
In April 2020, Telegram had committed to incorporating the group video calling option.
With the advance of the pandemic and isolation, this feature was to be expected on the platform;
although the actual incorporation took a year.
Espionage against the creator of Telegram
On the other hand, the founder of the encrypted messaging service Telegram, Pável Dúrov, one of those potentially affected by
the
Pegasus
spy program
, recently expressed his hope that politicians will act against these surveillance tools.
"So far, despite the current monopolization of the market increasing costs and violating the privacy and freedom of expression of billions (of people), officials have acted very slowly," he wrote on his Telegram account.
Pavel Durov, creator of Telegram.
"I hope that the news that they themselves have been the target of these surveillance tools will incite politicians to change their minds," added the Russian, who revealed that he has known since at least 2018 that one of their phone numbers was included in a
list of potential targets
for this type of surveillance program.
Dúrov indicated that a source from the
Israeli company NSO Group
, who developed the Pegasus software implicated in spying on activists, journalists or politicians from several countries, including 14 leaders, such as the president of France, Emmanuel Macron, denied it.
"Personally I was not worried: since 2011, when I was still living in Russia, I got used to assuming that all my phones were compromised," he said.
"Anyone who gets access to my data will be totally disappointed - they will have to review thousands of concept designs for Telegram functions and millions of messages related to our product development process. You will not find any important information there," Dúrov said.
