The scenario of an infanticide is confirmed in Finistère.
The mother of the two girls found dead on July 21 near Brest was indicted for murder and placed in pre-trial detention, the Brest prosecutor's office announced on Tuesday.
During her police custody Monday, she confirmed "to be at the origin of the voluntary and premeditated death of her children".
She also mentioned the reason for the act, namely "the marital breakdown" announced by her husband, details the press release of the prosecutor of Brest, Camille Miansoni.
Hospitalized just after the discovery of the two children, due to "lesions compatible with the ingestion of caustic products" during medical examinations, the mother of the family was auditioned for the first time on July 23.
Police custody was however lifted after a few hours for medical reasons, the prosecutor said.
That day, she could not give precise indications on the way in which she had managed to give death to her daughters, evoking "a total amnesia on this episode".
A separation at the origin of the drama
The facts go back to the night of July 20 to 21, the two girls "almost" 4 and 6 years old were found dead at their home in Relecq-Kerhuon in Finistère.
The autopsy of the bodies had concluded in a "death by drowning".
"No injury or trace of external violence was discovered on the bodies," said the magistrate quoted by France 3 Bretagne.
For her part, the 35-year-old mother said she had tried to "put them to sleep with medication".

The separation announced by her husband would be at the origin of the tragedy. Two letters had been discovered at the family home, the site of the local chain still indicates. One for the attention of the father of the girls, the other for the attention of the mother's family. Both reported on this separation announced by her husband last May.
