A 64-year-old woman fell fatally on Thursday after tipping from a ridge in the Aravis sector, straddling Savoie and Haute-Savoie, we learned from mountain rescue, confirming information from the site of the Dauphiné Libéré.
Originally from Doubs, the hiker was leading a group of five people, including her husband, when she stumbled on a steep path in the Pointe du Mandallaz sector.
She then fell about 300 meters on her left, falling into the void, in the town of Ugine, from where the group had left that very morning.
Two rescuers from the Courchevel CRS as well as a doctor from the SMU used a civil security helicopter to get there and had to finish the way to the victim on foot due to the cloudy weather.
Help arrived around 1 p.m., the hiker was dead.
An investigation was opened to determine the circumstances of the accident.
