A 65-year-old American, wanted since Thursday in the Mont-Blanc massif, was discovered dead Friday, we learned from mountain rescue, confirming information from the regional daily Le Dauphiné Libéré.

This man did not show up at the Goûter refuge on Thursday evening, where he had a reservation.

After a day of research, the gendarmes of the PGHM of Chamonix found his body at the bottom of a crevasse, at an altitude of approximately 4,500 meters, on the access road to Mont-Blanc, according to the same source.

The gendarmes used an ice-melting de-icing product to extract his body.

Another climber is missing

The prefecture of Haute-Savoie warned on Friday against "the lack of technical mastery", judging "not reasonable" that "apprentice mountaineers" venture into the ascent of Mont-Blanc, even by the normal route , without being supervised by a professional mountain guide. A mountaineer from South Korea has also been missing in the massif since Tuesday.
