A priest was killed this Monday morning in Vendée by a man he was hosting.
The alleged perpetrator of this murder is said to be of Rwandan nationality and a refugee in France.
According to a source familiar with the matter, Emmanuel A. had been placed under judicial supervision as part of the investigation into the fire of July 18, 2020 at Nantes cathedral, where he was a volunteer.
He went to the gendarmerie in the middle of the morning to denounce himself.
The drama was announced by the Minister of the Interior, Gerald Darmanin, on Twitter. This announcement prompted strong reactions from far-right and right-wing politicians very quickly. The president of the National Rally, Marine Le Pen, immediately stormed on Twitter. "In France, we can therefore be illegal, burn the cathedral of #Nantes, never be expelled, and repeat by murdering a priest," she wrote, seeing "the complete bankruptcy of the State and Gerald Darmanin ”. The Minister of the Interior replied without delay: "This foreigner was not deportable despite his deportation order as long as his judicial control was not lifted". He accused Marine Le Pen of "arguing without knowing the facts".

As for the mayor of Béziers, Robert Ménard, he denounced a "despicable crime", when the MEP RN Jérôme Rivière considered that "the laxity of Gérald Darmanin and Éric Dupond-Moretti is killing. They must be held to account! ". An opinion shared by the vice-president of the RN, Jordan Berdella, who calls the Minister of the Interior to account on Twitter: "The bankruptcy is total, their responsibility immense".
