A priest was killed this Monday morning in Vendée by a man he was hosting.

The alleged perpetrator of this murder is said to be of Rwandan nationality and a refugee in France.

According to a source familiar with the matter, Emmanuel A. had been placed under judicial supervision as part of the investigation into the fire of July 18, 2020 at Nantes cathedral, where he was a volunteer.

He went to the gendarmerie in the middle of the morning to denounce himself.

The drama was announced by the Minister of the Interior, Gerald Darmanin, on Twitter. This announcement prompted strong reactions from far-right and right-wing politicians very quickly. The president of the National Rally, Marine Le Pen, immediately stormed on Twitter. "In France, we can therefore be illegal, burn the cathedral of #Nantes, never be expelled, and repeat by murdering a priest," she wrote, seeing "the complete bankruptcy of the State and Gerald Darmanin ”. The Minister of the Interior replied without delay: "This foreigner was not deportable despite his deportation order as long as his judicial control was not lifted". He accused Marine Le Pen of "arguing without knowing the facts".

What indignity!

Rather than expressing her compassion to the Catholics who welcomed this murderer, Madame le Pen argues without knowing the facts: this foreigner was not deportable despite his deportation order as long as his judicial control was not lifted.

The spokesperson for the RN, Sébastien Chenu, also added: "Every day, our country is sinking a little more" and "we are really going to have to wake up! ". Former RN and President of the Patriots, Florian Philippot, said on Twitter: “Our country is betrayed by its ruling caste like never before! ". As for the mayor of Béziers, Robert Ménard, he denounced a "despicable crime", when the MEP RN Jérôme Rivière considered that "the laxity of Gérald Darmanin and Éric Dupond-Moretti is killing. They must be held to account! ". An opinion shared by the vice-president of the RN, Jordan Berdella, who calls the Minister of the Interior to account on Twitter: "The bankruptcy is total, their responsibility immense".

Gérald Darmanin must explain without delay how an illegal immigrant subject to an obligation to leave the territory was able to set fire to the Nantes cathedral and to walk in Vendée a few months later to assassinate a priest.

The bankruptcy is total, their responsibility immense.

Right-wing elected officials also spoke on the social network.

The right-wing primary candidate for the presidential election, Valérie Pécresse, said she was "upset", while Xavier Bertrand, also a right-wing candidate, expressed his "fear" after this assassination "which strikes at the heart Catholics a few days before the Assumption ”.

The boss of LR senators, Bruno Retailleau, wondered: “But what was this individual still doing in France?

".

The LR deputy for Yonne, Guillaume Larrivé, denounced a "terrible failure of the State".

Deeply touched by the appalling murder of a priest, in Vendée, who had welcomed his murderer to his home.

This was the undocumented person who had set fire to Nantes cathedral.

But what was this individual still doing in France?

“This man should never have entered France and even less stayed there after the fire in Nantes cathedral.

(…) We have before us the consequences of our cowardice and our blindness ”, estimated the LR president of the Auvergne - Rhône-Alpes region, Laurent Wauquiez, while the LR deputy of the Alpes-Maritimes, Éric Ciotti denounced,“ the laxity of this power and of its socialist predecessor ”.

# Vendée: this man should never have entered France and even less stayed there after the fire in Nantes cathedral.

It is not even a legal question, it is a question of common sense.

We have before our eyes the consequences of our cowardice and our blindness.

The former president of the Vendée, Philippe de Villiers, links the health measures taken today to this tragedy: "Macron imposes the restriction of the freedom to come and go the same day a # priest is assassinated in # Vendée by a freed criminal ”. The Minister of the Interior, Gérald Darmanin, is expected at the scene of the tragedy during the day.
