The

most popular

messaging platform

del mundo recently launched a new feature that is highly demanded by users:

WhatsApp

now allows taking photos or videos for single viewing or

disappearing from the chat

once the recipient has opened them.

According to the company, this new feature

increases the privacy

of users, but it has a problem: unlike

Instagram, Snapchat or Telegram, WhatsApp will

not notify the sender if the receiver has taken a screenshot of the single-view media element.

In this way, the new function, which apparently does not represent any inconvenience since it is only recommended to

use it with people you trust

, could create risky situations such as extortion or sexual harassment.

The company says the new single-view feature lets you

send disappearing photos and videos

, giving users greater control over their privacy.

WhatsApp "See Once" allows you to send self-destructing photos and videos.

WhatsApp assured in this regard that the contents that are seen only once and then self-delete are

protected by end-to-end encryption

, as well as the chats and the rest of the content that is shared in them.

However, this same function could expose sensitive documentation, such as a photo of the DNI or photos of a sexual nature and

create a false sense of security

, especially among minors, who tend to be less aware of the risk involved in sending photos or intimate videos through social networks.

WhatsApp's "Unique View" could

encourage grooming

or also known as cyberbullying of minors.

The adult could create a bond of trust with a minor through this tool and ask for photos or videos because theoretically, after viewing, it disappears, but a capture can be made and it is not registered or notified to the issuer.

The "single view" is available to all WhatsApp users who have updated to the latest version of the application.

How to Submit Single View Photos

  • Open an individual or group chat.

  • Press the camera icon to take a photo or record a video or select a media file from your albums.

You can also do it by tapping the attach icon and then tapping the following.

  •  Hit the "1" icon in the dialog box, and hit submit.

  •  As soon as you have seen it, the image will be deleted from the chat and you will not be able to open it again

  • WhatsApp beta problems

Beyond the new features, the messenger continues to prepare for its next update.

Meanwhile, the beta version is experiencing

    problems loading old messages

from conversations due to a bug showing only the most recent messages.

The bug was reported in the latest update released for

the WhatsApp beta on Android (v2.21.16.9)

    .

It mainly affects mobile phones, but some users have also indicated problems on WhatsApp Web.

The trial version of WhatsApp has problems loading old messages.

Due to the inconvenience, the conversations keep the recent messages, but

prevent access to the old ones

when starting an upload process that does not finish, as the affected users have shared on portals such as Reddit.

The beta version of WhatsApp is part of a

    testing program

that allows users who participate in it to access some functions that the company is working on before they reach the stable or final version.
