The world is on fire, the catastrophe is already here, and the editions are being held responsibly

The climate report released yesterday should keep sleep out of sight for all of us, but in commercial editions the most important thing on the agenda is pushed deep to the bottom of the agenda out of repression at best or cynical indifference at worst.

The main thing is to have an item invested in eating sweets in the great freedom

The items that came later in the edition illustrate what, according to the bourgeois logic of the editors, is entitled to more invested journalistic coverage: the question of how to prevent children from eating sweets during the big holiday is probably more important than the question of what can be done to prevent a complete collapse of ecosystems

Global warming and the climate crisis were not born yesterday, but those who look around a bit have long realized that something is not quite right between one natural disaster or another, a horrific summer or fires that contain countless acres.

Still, not every day a report as poignant as the one published yesterday, signed by senior climate scientists, is published. The title should shake the thresholds and keep sleep out of the eyes of all of us: we have failed as a human collective. The damage to the planet is not a possible threat - but a fact. There is more to do to start repairing, but the catastrophe is already here.

If it is not an earthquake, then the report in question is at least a wake-up call.

And if so, it can only be stated that the commercial news editions are burying their heads in the sand at best, or at worst knowingly pushing deep into the bottom of the agenda, out of cynical indifference, the most important thing at hand.

In doing so, they undermine the viewers' knowledge, their sense of urgency and the chance that the government will act decisively and immediately in the local context.

The exception is the corporation's news company, which opened the edition with the report and an interpretation, as well as an extension of the situation in Israel, and somewhat saved the dignity of the news on Israeli television.

How deep is the dramatic information pushed down in the commercial editions? At least 40 minutes - long after the pain of those flying abroad who have to change plans because of the corona (News 12) or the nasty insult of a public employee during a zoom discussion and a variety of coronation enforcement issues (News 13) - interesting things for sure, but in relation to these are trivial, Short-lived background noise The orchestra plays on the Titanic deck, but even the glacier that was supposed to collide with it has already melted.

The most negligible and latest report was in News 13, a minute and a quarter (!) Of a reading from a slide provided by forecaster Tal Shamai. The items that came later in the edition illustrate what is entitled by the bourgeois logic of the editors of the edition to more invested journalistic coverage: the question of how to prevent children from eating sweets in the great freedom is probably more important than the question of what can be done to prevent a complete collapse of ecosystems. Faster: A meteor shower observed in the sky of the earth gets an article with interviewees. Brother, there is nothing like beautiful science, which does not require feelings of guilt, which is so much more pleasant to hear about after work.

After all, editions do not have to have difficulty accessing a complex scientific topic - 364949290 items on epidemiology and mutations have already proven this in the past year.

But according to television logic, apparently, the climate crisis is - a) probably not stormy, urgent and yellowish enough and b) requires viewers to be too active in changing the national-economic-socio-priorities - instead of items that make it pleasant in the back and deal with pleasant dilemmas in many parenting worlds And tourism.

But soon it will no longer be pleasant at all, and the truth must be told: while the world is on fire, literally, the editions are raised under their responsibility.
