Not stopping: Tiktok announced today (Thursday) a number of changes for accounts for ages 13-17, aimed at tightening the privacy and safety of teens on the platform.
From now on, the definition of direct messages for 16-17 year olds joining Tiktok will be set to 'None' by default.
In order to send messages to others, users will have to actively switch to another sharing option.
Existing accounts will receive a message asking them to check and confirm their privacy settings the next time they use the feature.
These updates are added to existing protections on messages such as disabling sending pictures or videos and disabling notifications for accounts under the age of 16.

Along with the new updates, Tiktok has launched an upgraded safety center in Hebrew, which will include a guide for parents with all the useful tools offered by the company, an education and bullying prevention guide developed with experts from around the world and videos produced by artists on digital safety and more.
"The new updates reflect our ongoing commitment to protecting the safety and privacy of our youth on the platform," said Assaf Sagi, CEO of Tiktok Israel.
We work together with teens, organizations, parents and creators to constantly evolve. "

Conscious Approach to Push Alerts:
From now on Tiktok will make changes that will reduce the amount of time during which young teens can receive push alerts. Accounts aged 13-15 will not receive push notifications from 21:00 onwards, and accounts aged 16-17 will be disabled from 22:00.
Decide who can watch your videos:
To help teens understand the sharing options available to them, Tiktok adds a message to accounts under the age of 16 that pops up on the screen just before the release of their first video, asking them to choose who can watch the video. They will not be able to post their video until they choose.
Creators will be able to decide before posting any of their video who can watch it. Accounts ages 13-15 are set as private by default so their option is to choose to bio-share their content with their followers or friends (the 'everyone' setting is off). Stitch and Duet are disabled in accounts under 16.
Choose who can download your public videos:
From now on, 16-17 year olds will receive a pop-up message asking them to confirm the choice to allow downloads of their videos.
For accounts under 16 downloads are disabled.

"Our main goal at Tiktok has always been to cultivate a safe and pleasant platform for our diverse community," the social network said.
"Beyond our safety and privacy settings, which allow people to make decisions about who they share their content with, we also believe it is important to provide proactive protection to help maintain the safety of teens on the platform."
"Since the beginning of the year, we have introduced changes that support age-appropriate experiences including making accounts under 16 private by default, restricting messages directly to accounts aged 16 and over and giving parents greater control through family coupling," they added.
