Teaser Season 2 of "Beaches of Secrets" (Netflix)

Like many series last summer, when "Outer Banks" aired on Netflix, it was just what we needed in the midst of a plague that shut us down in homes and kept us out of the big world. It imparted a sense of spacious vacation, nostalgia and danger. The story dealt with a group of wonderfully aesthetic boys on the poorer side of the island town of Outer Banks in North Carolina. The father of one of them, John Bee (Chase Stokes), disappeared several months ago, leaving behind a treasure map and years of obsession with finding a lost treasure worth hundreds of millions of dollars, which was inside a ship that sank off the coast of the place. As is to be expected, the proximity to the discovery of this huge sum also brings to the place dubious and dangerous elements, chief among them Ward Cameron (Charles Aston), the savages of the rich side of the island. As requested, a love story is woven between his daughter Sarah (Madeline Klein) and John Bee.

It's not that the first season of "Beaches of Secrets" was a masterpiece, but what she did was wonderful: merging a series of youths spiced with a-la "OC" classes, and a sweeping adventure story that is simply unparalleled on television, at least not for the audience Non-children: a map of a lost treasure, a variety of dangerous elements who chase after it, chasing the water and the land and avoiding both the bad and the "good", a police force in which many factors are corrupt.

Another viewing of the first season ahead of the new one, which aired on Netflix in late July, reaffirmed its strength.

Tightened, calculated, attractive, attractive and often exciting.

One of the fun series on screen.

Whimsy and extremism. "Beaches of Secrets" Season 2 (Photo: Netflix)

Unfortunately, like a boat whose engine knocks in the middle of a gallop, the second season of "Beaches of Secrets" snorts throughout.

This is true in every aspect of it.

For example relationships.

The relationship between Kiara and Pop (Madison Bailey and Jonathan Davis) is far less interesting than the series thinks, and through her sole fault.

"Beaches" sketches them in eye-rolling capriciousness: one moment he is in love with her and she is not, suddenly she wants to and he is not, then he longs for her and she does not and so on and so forth.

It's just the opposite of the way John Bee and Sarah's story was woven in the first season, which was hesitant and captivating and made us cheer for them.

Probably not for nothing that the chemistry between them has been translated into a romantic relationship in real life as well.

But these two also falter in the second season, and not because of the wedge that the series puts between them - it is actually conceivable.

The problem comes even before, with the "marriage" and the abysmal seriousness with which they treat them.

The irrationality cannot be ignored.

"Beaches of Secrets" Season 2 (Photo: Netflix)

These two dimensions, whimsy on the one hand and extremism on the other, reflect the way the creators of "Beaches of Secrets," brothers Josh and Jonas Fayette along with Shannon Burke, treat the entire script this season: all in maximum, all in bombastic, all in order Serve the current record, and everything that happens is significant only to that moment. Although it has a refinement of the spirit of youth, but what to do, it is impossible to create such a good TV.

If in the past "Beaches of Secrets" still tried to equate itself with the appearance of a consistent and orderly plot, this time it throws common sense out the window. Again and again the second season insults the intelligence, turns its characters into superheroes and deprives itself and has almost complete consequences. Every episode in it is so laden with happenings that it seems like an attempt - completely futile - to distract us from the holes, the lack of logic and the inconsistency it is full of.

Please note, from now on spoilers for the entire season

All to serve the current record.

"Beaches of Secrets" Season 2 (Photo: Jackson Lee Davis / Netflix)

Take for example Sarah, one of the most popular girls at Outer Banks. When she and John Bee "ask" the cleaner's phone at the Bensau Hotel, why does Sarah not just shoot a video to her many followers in which she tells who actually shot the sheriff? Later, while the Foggs follow Ward and watch him shoot Gavin, what the hell brings Kiara to act like a moron, get out of hiding and call him a "killer", other than the script's need to force a chase scene? Why the hell would Rose bring Gavin the gun that incriminates his son in the first place? And if at the beginning of the season Ward says that the gold immediately goes to the Swiss, how is it that at the end of the season his family tries to locate the gold again and not the payment for it?

The boundless approach causes "Beaches of Secrets" to undermine itself, eroding what made it so successful and delightful in the first season. How many times do we see a fateful scene, sometimes a trembling forehead, that ends in the next episode with a weak response, before he stops caring? If someone suffocates to the point of fainting, he does not return to himself in an instant and without marks on the neck. If a boy is bitten in the leg by a crocodile, he is unable to continue running and jumping and skipping as usual without even being checked or bandaged. If someone is shot and experiences a clinical death for a few minutes, she does not immediately get to her feet and keep running around.

"Beaches of Secrets" sacrifices the consequences and results in favor of cheap thrills, and one can literally see throughout the season how it only intensifies the saa more and more. Did you think that Sarah's return to life would be a jaw drop? Wait until you see that Rose is not actually dead !!! Were you amazed when you saw his face again? You will not believe which character you thought died all this time actually survived !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

The chemistry of the cast is brilliant.

"Beaches of Secrets" Season 2 (Photo: Jackson Lee Davis / Netflix)

Even in this tangle of nonsense there is quite a bit that works in favor of "beaches of secrets".

It is invested, abundant and spectacular to the eye.

The real chemistry between the cast shines on the screen.

JJ's character is endearing and he is wonderfully portrayed by Rudy Panko.

And in the end, no other TV series is still doing what it does - a definite adventure story, as in the classic books of Robert Lewis Stevenson, Alexander Duma or Jules Verne.

This is exactly why the drastic drop in the level of "Beaches of Secrets" sucks so much: the direction of the creators is clear, the series is still a huge global hit, and accordingly - it is very doubtful if it will improve in the coming seasons.
