Continuation of the fires in the Aude.
A firefighter from Vaucluse, who came to reinforce the fires that have raged in the Aude since Monday evening, was seriously injured during an intervention on Tuesday.
A fire truck was caught in flames during an extinguishing action, tells the Parisian the Departmental Fire and Rescue Service.
Four people were involved in the incident, which left two injured, one seriously.
The man, burned, is currently hospitalized in Montpellier.
The extent of his burns is not known.
"The support and the recognition of all must be addressed to them in these circumstances", wrote the prefecture of Aude in a press release published Tuesday evening.
Three great hotbeds of fires
In all, four fires broke out in the Aude.
The prefecture assured the Independent newspaper that these fires were under control, but that the risks of resumptions were still high.
These fires spread over 80 hectares in all.
About a hundred firefighters remain mobilized.
The A9 motorway, closed due to the Peyriac-de-Mer outbreak, was however reopened in both directions this morning.
French firefighters are grappling with three major fires today. In the Vaucluse, a fire spread over more than 200 hectares. In the Var, the fires have already killed at least one person, and one person is missing, in what is described as the biggest fire of the summer.
