The video platform YouTube has deleted more than a million videos with "dangerous false information" about the corona virus since the beginning of the pandemic.
The "consensus of experts from health organizations" such as the World Health Organization (WHO), said the online platform belonging to Google on Wednesday, is decisive for the decisions.
"Our guidelines focus on the removal of videos that can directly lead to significant damage in the real world," wrote YouTube product manager Neal Mohan in a blog article.
In the videos that have been deleted since February 2020, for example, false cures against Covid-19 were touted or the pandemic as such was questioned.
Mohan said YouTube is currently removing nearly 10 million videos every quarter.
Most of them have been viewed less than ten times.
The platform is working to remove videos with incorrect information even faster.
At the same time, Mohan tried to counter the criticism that YouTube was increasing the spread of misinformation.
Videos that violate the terms of use would account for less than 0.2 percent of total views.
However, it is not the task of the platform to remove videos that are not clearly harmful.
YouTube tries to recommend high-quality videos to its users.
