Incidence rises to more than 72

6:43 a.m.:

The seven-day incidence in Germany has increased again. According to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) on Saturday morning, it was 72.1 - the previous day the value was 70.3, a week ago it was 51.6. The health authorities reported 10,303 new infections to the RKI within one day, over 2000 more than a week ago. According to the new information, 22 deaths were recorded across Germany within 24 hours. The RKI has counted 3,924,131 detected infections with Sars-CoV-2 since the beginning of the pandemic. The actual total number is likely to be significantly higher, as many infections are not detected. The total number of deaths stands at 92,118. According to the RKI, the number of those who have recovered is 3,723,200.

The debate about restrictions for vaccination skeptics and refusal to give up is meanwhile gaining momentum.

In view of the rapidly spreading infection, Baden-Württemberg threatens unvaccinated adults with new contact restrictions as early as the beginning of September.

The Ministry of Social Affairs in Stuttgart wants to take countermeasures quickly if - as currently expected - more and more Covid 19 patients have to go to intensive care units in clinics.

Study: Delta hospitalized risk twice as high

2:05 a.m.:

According to a study, the risk of being

admitted to

hospital is about twice as high as with the alpha variant if you are infected with the delta variant of the coronavirus. Researchers from the University of Cambridge and the Public Health England authority evaluated more than 40,000 corona cases in England between the end of March and the end of May 2021. The results published in the journal »Lancet Infectious Diseases« can be related primarily to the risk for unvaccinated people. The data do not allow any conclusions to be drawn for fully vaccinated persons.

So far, studies have mainly shown the higher transferability of the delta variant; there were hardly any reliable statements about the risk of severe courses.

The scientists now used the results of tens of thousands of positive tests that had been assigned to delta or alpha by means of genetic analyzes.

Almost 9,000 went back to Delta, around 35,000 to Alpha.

In relation to this, the researchers looked at the number of hospital admissions.

Only 1.8 percent were fully vaccinated

After adjusting the data for factors such as age and demographics, which usually increase the risk of developing serious illness, they found that infected with Delta had a mean 2.26-fold higher risk of hospitalization within two weeks of the test fixed. The risk of having to go to an emergency room or be admitted to the hospital within 14 days was therefore 1.45 times higher with Delta than with Alpha.

Of the cases examined in the study, only 1.8 percent were fully vaccinated, which the researchers interpret as further confirmation that the vaccines are very effective.

74 percent of the infected people considered were unvaccinated, 24 percent only partially vaccinated, i.e. with only one vaccination dose.

Because of the limited amount of data available for this, the researchers are unable to make any statements as to whether there is a higher risk of serious illness in vaccinated persons as well.

The Russian statistics authority counted more than 50,000

corona

deaths

in July

00:52:

The Russian statistics agency Rosstat counted more than twice as many corona deaths as the government in July. In July, 50,421 people died of Covid-19 in Russia, the Moscow statisticians announced on Friday evening. According to the official census by the Russian government, 23,349 corona deaths were recorded in July. The government only takes into account deaths in which the coronavirus was found to be the main cause of death after an autopsy. The statistics agency Rosstat uses a broader definition that records more deaths related to the virus.

According to Rosstat, more than 350,000 people have died as a result of a corona infection in Russia since the beginning of the pandemic.

The government has so far recorded 180,041 deaths.

The highly contagious delta variant of the corona virus has been spreading rapidly in Russia since mid-June.

Although the number of new infections has now declined, the number of deaths recorded multiple daily highs in August.
