"The Next Star" did everything we could to talk about the finals.
We had a strenuous and yawning evening
Relative to the million-dollar final, it was an uncovered evening that slipped a bit under the rug of self-importance and unfounded compliments, revealing a great deal of sweat from trying to sell the event as an extraordinary TV evening.
Not exactly a class with zero effort

The Next Star, A Surprise Duet (Arc 12)
A. Without Eurovision, it was the season of the million: after being forced to exchange the award, "The Next Star" promised a new story this year, one that talks about building a career, with an emphasis on "art" and "a place in the music industry". No longer a reality emitted from it, but a music school that the outstanding students do it big time. One of the means of marketing was the same exchange prize: one million shekels.
Last night, in the final (Keshet 12) held at Zappa Live Park in Rishon Lezion, the magic word was repeated again and again. It was the "final of the million" between artists "who put the million" on them who give "a performance worth a million". For moments it was confusing: what exactly is the "next star" selling? What is the means and what is the purpose? And does it, in the strange universe that runs in the shows of a dying and worn-out TV genre, matter at all?
B.
So relative to the million-dollar final, it was an uncovered evening that slipped a bit under the rug of self-importance and unfounded compliments, revealing a great deal of sweat from trying to sell the event as an extraordinary TV evening.
Not exactly a class with zero effort.
All in all, it was a completely lukewarm, conservative and unexciting evening: none of the performances shook the world, the inflated judges' table was almost redundant, sound problems recurred, and even if Asi Ezer and Rotem Sela are already skilled at leading such broadcasts, Everything seemed much less relaxed this time.
Million million - what a yawn.

Won a million shekels: Tamir Greenberg is the winner of "The Next Star" 2021

third.
A look at the final quartet - high-quality but unexciting - reveals that this season of "The Next Star" has mostly rewarded contestants who gambled on their talent: Shai Hambar reached the final after three original songs;
Tamir Greenberg won the season with an original song;
And Valery Buttery's choice to freely translate songs from Hebrew to Arabic and combine the two languages also earned her much appreciation.
This is actually a good message: Outdoors, those who promote the unique where they are much more likely to advance from singers who may be talented, but have not yet found their identity.
But this is not the only musical lesson that came out of the program yesterday: Hamati and Hambar, who gambled on Israeli ballads of the kind that once washed over the finals of "A Star Is Born" - found themselves losing to those who chose rhythmic songs.
"Sea of Tears" is really out, it turns out;
In 2021 it will probably be required to lift.

Regarding the winner: Despite the undeniable ability, the hype and the general outpouring, the choice of Tamir Greenberg is at least surprising.
Greenberg does not sing in Hebrew, dislikes the game, it all grows out of some Americana - not exactly the classic winner of a local poetry reality show.
In general, it is difficult for artists who follow his musical path to develop a stable career in Israel.
On the way, he defeated two singers swimming in oriental music, and a singer-songwriter who writes about Tel Aviv - exactly the people you would expect to take on such a competition.
It was much easier to explain any other choice.
Does the choice of Greenberg represent disgust at these styles or is it simply an anomaly, the result of a TV charisma that gave it the added edge over competitors regardless of style?
The answers will come out, when we find out what awaits each of them in the real world, where a million is a number that musicians rarely meet.
