Actor Michael Kenneth Williams has been found dead at his home in New York, US media reported.

Williams was 54 at the time of his death, and is estimated to have died as a result of a drug overdose.

Williams has starred in many movies and series, and is best known for his roles as Omar Little in the masterpiece "The Undertaker" and Chuckie White in "Crime Empire."

He was nominated for three Emmy Awards for his role in "The Story of Betty Smith" and also starred in the series "Event Night" and "When They See Us."



Williams began his career as a dancer with performances by Madonna and George Michael.

In 1999 he starred in Martin Scorsese's film Touching Death, alongside Nicholas Cage and John Goodman in the role of a drug dealer.

He received most of his publicity in 2002 when he participated in the "Undercover" series as the mobster Omar Little, one of the most prominent characters in the series.

Williams accepted the role of Omar after only one audition.

He was highly praised in the media for his performances and warm words from US President Barack Obama who declared in an interview that "The Undertaker" is his favorite series and Omar Little is his favorite character.

In 2010 Williams got a big role in the crime series "Crime Empire", in the series he played Albert "Chuckie" White, the leader of the black community in Atlantic City.

That same year he also starred in the crime film "The Streets of Brooklyn" as the mobster Red.

In 2015, he starred in the HBO musical drama "The Story of Bessie Smith," and for his role was nominated for an Emmy Award for Supporting Actor in a Mini-Series or Movie.



In 2019, Williams played Anton McGray's father in the miniseries "When They See Us" based on the true story of five young boys convicted of raping and murdering a runner in Central Park in New York despite being innocent.

For this role, Williams was nominated for the third time for the Emmy Award for Supporting Actor in a Mini-Series or Movie.
