A 30-year-old man, known to the police and justice, was seriously injured by gunshot on Monday morning in Lucciana, Haute-Corse.

An investigation for an attempted murder in an organized gang was opened by the Bastia prosecutor.

"Around 10:50 am, he was leaving his residence by car when he was attacked by several armed men who opened fire on him," said a source close to the case.

The man, "seriously injured" by a "bullet in the face", was evacuated to the Bastia hospital in a condition deemed "serious", said the emergency services.

He was then transferred to the Nice hospital, according to corroborating sources.

An investigation opened for "attempted murder in an organized gang" was opened and entrusted in co-referral to the judicial police and the research section, said in a statement the prosecutor of the Republic of Bastia, Arnaud Viornery.

Already convicted of criminal association
