545 classes closed in France

Education Minister Jean-Michel Blanquer said on Tuesday that 545 classes were currently closed in France because of the Covid-19 epidemic,

"a little above 0.1%"

of them.

“Today, we have 545 closed classes in France.

We are therefore a little above 0.1%.

This is important data, which shows that for the moment, we are in a situation that resembles that of last year, ”

said Jean-Michel Blanquer, questioned on the start of the school year during questions to the government in the National Assembly.

On July 2, 374 classes were closed out of 528,400, or 0.07%, according to figures from the Ministry of National Education.

Towards an extension of the state of health emergency overseas

The National Assembly is preparing on Tuesday to give the first green light to an extension, until November 15, of the state of health emergency in several overseas territories hard hit by the rebound of the coronavirus crisis.

This extension, which makes it possible to establish or maintain curfew and containment measures, concerns Guadeloupe, Martinique, Saint-Barthélemy and Saint-Martin in the Antilles, as well as Guyana, Reunion and French Polynesia.

The bill and its single article will then come to the Senate on Thursday morning, the government hoping to complete the parliamentary adoption process on the same day.

A state of emergency is legally possible until September 30 in these territories - September 20 for French Polynesia where containment measures have been extended.

Curfew and containment measures are in force there, with procedures specific to local health situations.

Vaccination slips in France

Relaunched massively at the beginning of the summer, in particular by the health pass, it has now been slowing down for several weeks despite the efforts of the government.

Last week, around 2.6 million anti-Covid vaccine injections were performed in France, including 740,000 first doses, most of these vaccines being injected in two stages.

These numbers are in sharp decline compared to the previous week, a trend that has been going on since August.

More broadly, there have never been so few French people to receive their first dose since the beginning of March.

Symbol of this slowdown, the symbolic threshold of 50 million first doses, planned by the government for the end of August, then the very beginning of September, has still not been reached, to some 800,000 injections.

The Prime Minister assured that this threshold would be reached within a few days.

Out of 58 million eligible French people, a fifth are not vaccinated against Covid-19, either because they have only received a first dose so far, or because they have not received any.

The Pfizer vaccine delivered to liberal caregivers from October 1

Expected for several months by doctors, pharmacists, midwives and liberal nurses, the Pfizer vaccine against Covid-19 will be

"available from October 1"

for these professionals, the Ministry of Health said on Tuesday.

Claimed since the spring by the unions, in particular pharmacists, the Pfizer will finally be able to be ordered directly by liberal caregivers.

A first step was taken at the beginning of the summer: since July, health professionals could, on a case-by-case basis, recover vials from vaccination centers.

At the end of August, orders were opened for pharmacists, but only for nursing homes - 157,000 doses were thus reserved last week, for delivery scheduled for Thursday or Friday.

The Order of Physicians calls for immediate access to the 3rd dose for doctors

Faced with the Delta variant, the Order of Physicians is asking that all doctors and health professionals now have access to the third dose of vaccine, until now reserved for the oldest and most vulnerable people.

"Faced with the risk of a drop in the efficacy of vaccines beyond six months after a complete vaccination schedule, in particular against the Delta variant, it is now necessary to allow the most exposed and vulnerable groups to have access to access to a vaccine booster

,

wrote the Order on Tuesday in a press release.

At the end of August, the High Authority for Health (HAS) recommended a booster dose of the vaccine against the Covid to all people 65 years of age and over, as well as to those at risk of serious forms, potentially 18 million French people. .

The recall campaign began on September 1 for those over 80, the immunocompromised and other people considered to be at very high risk of developing a serious form (cancer patients undergoing treatment, dialysis patients, etc.).

Sweden to lift almost all of its restrictions at the end of September

Sweden will lift almost all of its anti-Covid restrictions on September 29 due to the progress of its vaccination program and the good epidemic situation, the government announced on Tuesday.

After this date, only general recommendations for increased hygiene and distancing in public places will remain, even if the government plans to introduce a vaccination pass for major events, the executive announced.

The gradual lifting of these measures was scheduled for May as part of a five-stage plan, the fourth of which will be at the end of September.

Climate NGOs for the postponement of COP26

Between vaccination inequalities and costly quarantine, the UN climate conference in November in Glasgow (Scotland) will not be

"fair and inclusive"

and must therefore be postponed, argued the climate NGOs on Tuesday.

"This call for the postponement of COP26 in no way means a postponement of urgent climate actions or a boycott of climate discussions"

, specifies the Climate Action Network, which brings together some 1,500 NGOs including Greenpeace, WWF, Action Aid, Oxfam and Amnesty. International.
