On the opening day of the IAA auto show, activists roped off motorway bridges around Munich.
As a sign of protest against the automotive industry, the activists unfurled banners.
The traffic was blocked by the action, in some cases there were traffic jams.
According to a police spokesman, parts of the lane had to be blocked on the A8 and A96.
The traffic had been diverted to bring the demonstrators down from the bridge.
Activists also unfurled banners on the A92, A94 and A95.
Activists also arranged for a police operation on the A9.
There was also a protest action in a water basin in front of the Munich Exhibition Center: at an outside temperature of around ten degrees, 15 young people with posters stepped into the basin to send a sign that they would say goodbye to the combustion engine more quickly.
This action was organized by Greenpeace.
The participants' posters showed pictures of floods and forest fires from previous years, and slogans such as “The climate crisis starts here” could also be read.
"The German auto industry is fueling the climate crisis more and more," criticized Greenpeace traffic expert Benjamin Stephan.
»With their reckless dealings, VW, Mercedes-Benz and BMW restrict the freedom of young people.
For that to change, the corporations have to move away from climate-damaging internal combustion engines much faster. "
Further demonstrations are planned
The IAA is one of the world's largest automobile exhibitions.
For the first time this year the fair will take place as IAA Mobility with a new concept in Munich.
Numerous groups have announced demonstrations and protests.
Among other things, blockades are planned for Friday and a large demonstration and a bicycle rally with tens of thousands of participants for Saturday.
