Twitter tests groups and a safe mode

The social network prepares the creation of communities such as those on Facebook or Reddit to improve the user experience

Twitter has begun the experimental phase of several novelties that seek to promote "healthy conversations" among users and reduce bullying. Communities will allow users to create or join groups of people with interests similar to yours. In the first version, they can only take part if they receive an invitation. In addition, users will have the possibility to publish tweets that only reach the members of that Community, instead of all their followers, and they will be able to be part of several groups at the same time. These communities will have their moderators, as is already the case in Facebook groups or Reddit, a network made up of thousands of communities each with its own rules.

The social network also prepares a safe way for users to feel "more comfortable" writing their tweets. When, for example, a verbal attack occurs, its algorithms will analyze the interactivity between the users involved and, depending on whether it is an isolated event or not, will block the attacking user. In addition, the company also experiences a

soft block

, so that it can be removed from followers who are chosen without notifying them. Until now, there was only the possibility of blocking in the strict sense and the blocked user could find out if he looked at the profile of the other person.

Using safe mode, the locks will be temporary and will last for seven days.

Of course, Twitter heals health: "We can make mistakes, so the automatic locks of the safe mode can be seen and undone at any time in your settings," he acknowledges on his official blog.

Over the next several months, Twitter will evaluate the experience of various volunteers with the new updates.

For now, users will be able to join Communities by invitation only, but they will also have the option of creating the groups themselves: about dogs, a football club, or old photography.

Each new member of a Community will have five invitations to offer through direct messages, although the creators of the groups will have them unlimited.

Once they are part of a Community, members will be able to post tweets intended only for that group, but that does not mean that the conversations are private: any user of the network will be able to see them, although only those who are part of the group can interact.

The company insists that Communities will be moderated by users.

This type of groupings already existed on Facebook, although in those of Mark Zuckerberg's company the invitations are reserved for secret or invisible groups.

In addition to this modality, Facebook users can choose between making a private group or a public one and they can belong to a limited number, unlike the absence of limits posed by Twitter.

Among the updates that Twitter prepares, there are also

super follows or “

super followers”, to promote exclusive content for fans, who with this initiative would also become subscribers on the platform.

At the moment, the tariffs contemplated in the United States are of 2.99, 4.99 or 9.99 dollars per month.

In addition, content creators or

influencers

will be able to interact with their followers in a simpler way, by recognizing their '' super followers '' thanks to subscription emblems.
