Australia: Victoria reports fewer corona cases
03.48 a.m.:
The Australian state of Victoria reports fewer new Covid infections today than the day before.
To accelerate vaccination progress, mobile vaccination stations are opened in Melbourne, the capital of Victoria.
The authorities registered a total of 445 new infections, the previous day the value was 473 - higher than ever before this year.
Two people died from corona infection.
Almost half of the 25 million Australians are currently in lockdown due to the third wave of infections - including the residents of the largest Australian cities Sydney and Melbourne and the capital Canberra.
Compared to other countries, however, the corona numbers in Australia are still low: 75,700 infections and 1,100 deaths have been registered since the beginning of the pandemic.
General practitioners warn against neglecting the flu vaccination
02:13 a.m.: Family
doctors are concerned that the strong public focus currently on the corona vaccination campaign is leading to negligence in protecting against flu.
The influenza vaccination should not be forgotten, it also makes a decisive contribution to protecting the population and relieving the burden on the health system, said the federal chairman of the German Association of General Practitioners, Ulrich Weigeldt, of the "Rheinische Post".
"The most important thing for the second Corona autumn will be that as many people as possible get vaccinated, not only against the corona virus, but also against the flu," emphasized the head of the association.
It is desirable that the corona and influenza vaccinations could be administered at the same time as possible.
To this end, regional supply bottlenecks for influenza vaccines, which have often occurred in the past, must be avoided.
Spahn: The federal and state governments are looking for a common line in wage replacement benefits for unvaccinated people
00.15 a.m.:
In the dispute over compensation for
loss
of earnings of unvaccinated people who have to go into quarantine, the federal and state governments want to submit a joint regulation.
"We are trying to find a common line with the federal states on wage replacement benefits," said Federal Health Minister Jens Spahn (CDU) on Monday of the "Rheinische Post".
Accordingly, the health ministers of the federal states want to reach an overarching agreement on Wednesday.
It is about a passage in the Infection Protection Act.
According to this, people who have to be isolated at home on official orders, who are unable to work and no longer receive wages, receive state compensation in the amount of the loss of earnings.
According to the law, no compensation will be given to anyone who could have avoided the failure by taking a recommended vaccination.
So far, payments have been made in these cases anyway, not least because not enough corona vaccine was available in the past.
However, some federal states have now decided to end wage replacement benefits or are considering this.
The continued payment of wages in the event of illness is independent of this.
