It is clearly visible from space, the cloud of sand of the Sahara that in these days hangs over the skies of southern Italy: its advance over Sardinia and the central part of the Tyrrhenian Sea is documented by the image that was captured on Wednesday by the Sentinel satellite. -3 of Copernicus, the Earth observation program of the European Commission and the European Space Agency (ESA).
The dust cloud, which in the image extends over an area of about 40,000 square kilometers, seems to mix with the common white clouds as it crosses the sky above the Mediterranean, moving from the Tunisian coasts to the Italian ones.
According to the forecasts of the Copernicus atmospheric monitoring service (CAMS), the phenomenon will last several days and over the weekend it will also affect Greece.
It is possible that the passage of the dust cloud worsens the quality of the air: a problem that will be closely monitored by CAMS, able to evaluate the concentration of atmospheric particulate and its dispersion globally.
