A 15-year-old teenager from Lyon fell violently from a tram on line T7 on Thursday afternoon around 3:30 p.m., reports the local daily Le Progrès.

Hospitalized in absolute urgency, he finally succumbed to his injuries on Friday.

According to witnesses who witnessed the scene, the teenager would have hung on the back of the tram, putting his feet on a small ledge of the wagon.

The practice, which is known as “tram surfing”, which is very dangerous and illegal, has turned out to be fatal.

500 meters from the "Vaulx-en-Velin La Soie" stop, at the crossroads of Marius-Grosso and Romain-Rolland streets, the teenager fell heavily to the ground while the tram speed was around 50 km / h.

When help arrived, he was suffering from a massive abdominal hemorrhage.

Witness of the accident, the tram driver practiced first aid measures and attempted resuscitation on the victim who was then in a state of cardiac arrest.

On their arrival, the firefighters managed to resuscitate him.

Transported to the intensive care unit of the Edouard Herriot hospital in Lyon in a state of absolute emergency, he finally died of his injuries.

Investigators from the Traffic Accidents and Crime Brigade are in charge of the case.

“Tram surfing”, which consists of hanging on to a streetcar in circulation with their bare hands, is very popular with young people who sometimes take the stage in spectacular videos posted on social networks. This practice has already caused several accidents, some of which were fatal. Depending on the physiognomy of the trams, young people have fun hanging on to different points more or less acrobatic, while the tram starts. It is sanctioned by the police because, even at very low speed, the risks taken are extreme and the falls mostly serious.
