In the current BMW range, the sports activity coupé (Sac) plug-in hybrid X2 xDrive 25e is perhaps better identified than any other model with the Power of Choice philosophy, that is, with the freedom that the Munich manufacturer allows its customers to choose. the most welcome and most useful propulsion system to meet mobility needs.

Even in the X2 range, BMW goes to the xDrive 25e object of our test (which combines a 3-cylinder 1.5 with a 90 Hp electric motor and a 10.0 kWh battery) also other petrol versions (X2 sDrive 18i, X2 sDrive 20i and even X2 M35i with 306 Hp) and diesel (X2 xDrive 20d, X2 sDrive16d, X2 sDrive20d, X2 sDrive 18d and X2 xDrive 18d) for a truly unique range of solutions.

The combination, in the version chosen for the usual long-distance test of Ansa Motori, between a modern small displacement turbo petrol engine, a high-power electric motor (70 kW) and an equally 'capable' battery (nominal 10 kWh) offers probably the greatest benefit for the user, with a WLTP approved fuel consumption of just 1.9 l / 100 km and an energy consumption of 13.7 kWh / 100 km; with homologated CO2 emissions of 43 g / km and above all with the possibility of driving in 100% electric mode for 57 km (this is also the homologated figure).

In addition, it should be emphasized, this modern sports activity coupé offers xDrive all-wheel drive as standard, which is however carried out electrically as the front wheels are driven by the 3-cylinder petrol engine and the rear wheels by the powerful electric motor.

As we have constantly used during the test, the best energy efficiency is obtained by exploiting - even manually and several times during a trip - the opportunities for choosing the electric driving mode. In the standard Auto eDrive setting, the 'intelligent' system ensures optimal interaction between the two propulsion units in all traffic, road and pace situations. The autonomy, adding the petrol tank and the battery, exceeds 500 km.

The Max eDrive mode - as the name implies - must be activated to make the most of the electric drive even on the motorway because this function is active up to 135 km / h.

Finally, the Save Battery mode allows you to conserve the battery capacity and then switch to 100% electric, for example while driving in an urban center.

To all this, obviously, we must add the safety given by the 4-wheel drive with instantaneous management of torque distribution even in 'difficult' conditions (such as the rain we are used to even in summer) and of course snow in the winter season. The system reaches the limit of a power split between front and rear of 57-43%, and it is certainly 'pleasant' to feel pushed by the rear wheels when the car is running in 100% battery mode.

The 3-cylinder turbo petrol and electric motor produce a system power of 220 hp with 385 Nm of maximum torque, allowing the 'Sac' X2 xDrive 25e to sprint from standstill at 100 km / h in 6.8 seconds and reach - where there are no limits - 195 km / h. The behavior is evidently affected by the greater weight (about 300 kg compared to a similar petrol-only version) but the 10 mm lower set-up and the lower position of the center of gravity make cornering behavior more sporty.

It should be noted that the wide range of BMW Charging solutions increases the opportunities not only to move in most trips locally with only the electric motor (the optional Wallbox allows full recharging in 3.2 hours) but also on long journeys. . A few minutes, with the BMW Charging Card and the public columns, allow you to add 100-150 km with zero emissions in a typical weekend or holiday trip, with a decent advantage also for the wallet.

Since the battery is located under the rear seat, the luggage space remains sufficient with the backrest in position (410 liters) and - thanks to the compartment under the surface dedicated to the cables - is not especially affected by the bags for the harnesses as in many other models. And if you need to, you get to 1,290 thanks to the 40:20:40 distribution of the rear sofa. BMW offers the sports activity coupé xDrive 25e in the Advantage, Business X, M Sport, M Sport X and M Mesh Edition versions with prices ranging from 48,320 to 54,670 euros, naturally without taking into account any incentives.
