Musician Gary Eckstein was laid to rest today (Thursday) in the Yarkon Cemetery after he passed away on Monday after a battle with a severe kidney disease.

He was 73 at the time of his death.

About two hundred people came to pay their last respects to Eckstein, including well-known artists such as Shlomo Artzi, Miki Gavrielov, Hanan Yuval, Ariel Zilber, Manny Beger, Moti Giladi and Nissim Germa.

"His favorite song was 'Autumn Wind,' and he knows it," his daughter Michal said in the eulogy, and immediately after that sentence the autumn wind blew in the cemetery, and it's hard not to think of the beautiful symbolism: the one who signed this huge hit dies Where autumn officially began.

His daughter also praised him: "Most people who know me know that I write. But when I was little, really small, in my grandmother's house - his mother - I found out that in a writing competition he won a book of poems by Haim Nachman Bialik, and I read his essays. Even before I wrote poetry "Dad, you instilled in me your love of words and imagination. He instilled in me who I am. Even the writing. I miss and I do not believe. I always love you, Dad."

The musician Eran Zeira, his brother, also praised him: "Gary, you are warmly surrounded, all the people who love you, I'm sure you see us here, from above, you will see how many people love you, from everywhere, from all over the country. Gary, how much I love and admire "There was not a day that I did not tell him how much I admire and love him. My hero, you always have been and always will be."

His brother ended his eulogy by reading the song "Star Tooth" that Eckstein sang and composed with Moshe Levy to the words of Idan Sobol: "Star Tooth / Good Night / If we go / We will not return / Tooth Star / Do not get up / There is nothing here / There is nothing there."

As a guitarist and composer, Eckstein has signed on to a host of classics, including "Captain Jack," "Boogie with Me Tonight," "I'm Going to Beit She'an" and "Autumn Wind." Apart from that, he was also a partner in the works of many other artists, among other things he arranged the songs of the album "The Silk Road" by Yehudit Ravitz, and participated in the recording of the song "Suddenly When You Didn't Come" by Shlomo Artzi. In addition, he composed the music for the films "80 Wounds," "Am Yisrael Chai" and "Matriculation Exam." In 2008, Eckstein had a stroke.

Shlomo Artzi eulogized Lakstein on his Facebook page on Monday: "Here is the sorrow. Because you passed away, dear Geri Lev. The dancing and tense solo at the end of the song 'Tzavta', a solo that set a new standard in playing that was not there until then. And above all - the positivity. The desire to be present in the song. "Gary Eckstein, the beloved man and special friend of that magic journey then."

Eran Zeira paid tribute to his brother in a conversation with Walla! Culture on Monday: "Gary had a stroke 14 years ago, and 7 years ago he started having dialysis. Over time the condition got worse. He was relatively fine but a month or two ago he had a brain hemorrhage, and from there the condition kept getting worse. He was conscious. Jokes, drained the blood from the brain, apparently then went through another hemorrhage and there was nothing to do.He came to bad rehabilitation, and from there the situation worsened, until today he was redeemed from his torments and he could rest quietly.

"Gary, my older brother, I had pain as a child," Zeira added. "After my dad passed away he took care of me and took care of me. The man was an idol for me, the greatest guitar hero of all, and I do not say that because he is my brother, and not because he passed away, but I say it as a musician. He really was the greatest guitarist there was. Here. I took and drew so much from him. He was a master for me, like a rabbi. It was important to me to get his blessing from him before every job and every record I made. I went to get the kosher stamp or comments from him.

Gary was an insanely funny man, with tons of jokes. A professional who strives for perfection. A perfectionist who has no such things. I will never forget how in my early days, in sound works I shaved him in his productions, he was a real perfectionist. A friend said he was not just a lion In his luck, he was really a lion, and he controlled everything that was done in the studio. About a month ago, guys from ACUM came to him when they paid homage to him.

He was aware of that.

He was a very humble man, but it moved him.

Now he's probably playing with guys in the sky like Hendrix, Lennon and Gary II, Gary Moore, whom he admired.

And he must be sitting with Arik Einstein and Yigal Bashan and making jams with them in heaven. "
