Excerpt from the movie "Let There Be Morning" (Cannes Film Festival)
The Haifa Film Festival will continue until the next day, the eve of the holiday, but this evening (Sunday) the awards ceremony took place in the official competition.
The jury of the plot competition was very generous, and in fact awarded a prize to each film that participated in the competition.
The main prize, as expected, was "Let There Be Morning" by Eran Kolirin, the only one who came to the local competition in Haifa from a prestigious international festival - Cannes.
Based on Sayed Kashua's book, the film tells the story of a Palestinian village under siege by the IDF. On the grounds of victory, the jury wrote:
While he evoked strong feelings in the face of the sad and unresolved Palestinian-Israeli reality, the abundance of human love and many moments of humor.
The film touches on family and political dilemmas in Arab society, courage and originality.
Kolirin manages to miraculously combine realistic scenes and poetic moments.
"The impressive ensemble of actors, led by Kolirin with a confident hand, photography and artistic design are an integral part of the quality of this fine film."

The cast consists mostly of Palestinians. These boycotted the screening in Cannes about two months ago for political reasons, but came to the screening in Haifa. In a week, the film will attack the Ophir Awards, in which it is nominated in 15 categories.
"Let There Be Morning" also picked up the screenplay award and lead actor (Ihab Elias Salami). Raymond Amsalem won the Actress Award for her performance in "The House on Finn Street." "Tel Aviv" by Mert Farhomovsky won the debut film and "Program A" by Yoav and Doron Paz won the Artistic Achievement Award.
The docu-film award went to "Portrait" by Yael Kiefer and Ronen Zaretsky.
"The film unfolds in a poignant and moving way the stories of women from all parts of Israeli society who were murdered by their spouses," the jury reasoned.
"He also documents in real time those who may be next in line, women who are exposed to daily violence, without adequate protection from state authorities. The film's protagonist, Kifaya Aeiti, connects them through portrait paintings. ".
The award for short independent film won "It's Time to Die Already" and the award for short animated film "Black Slide" by Uri Lotan.
